I am writing an article about Flame Wars. Can anyone tell me some of
the outstanding or longest running flame wars on Google Groups?

This isn't a "Google Group"; it's a Usenet newsgroup, which is archived
and readable on Google Groups among other places, but which has an
existence independent of and predating the existence of that site.

Some more info:

Usenet.

IMO the best flame wars were back in 1995 when Microsoft's Munchkins
and shills were dissing IBM's OS2.

comp.os.os2.advocacy?

Windows 95 was called "Chicago" before release.

IMO those were the best flame wars I have ever seen. I don't know how
much of that material survives, but there were some pretty good guys
involved.

Ahh - no idea really. isn't that just one of many web interfaces to
usenet?
