Author Advertising for webmasters and business owners, where?
joereed1000@yahoo.com

Hi all...

If you have to reach webmasters and business owners where would you
advertise and how?

AdWords is expensive, but suggestions on keywords would be nice.

Also, advertising in target websites i think is the solution, don't
know where would it will be cheap. Do you have any hint?

Let's suppose you have $200 to $1000.

Thanks.

Well, which business owners will be interested in such a site? I'm sure
my favorite restaurant wouldn't. I also doubt my local grocery store
would participate.

Just like anything else - you must first define your target audience.
"Businesses" isn't a very good target audience. Once you figure out
what your target audience is, you can start trying to determine how to
market to them.

Sellers of phyical things?
Sellers of online services?
Sellers to a particular geographic location (country/region)?

To attract users online in a fairly haphazard way, you could ...

o look out for usenet groups that welcome sales announcements - read the
faq first. news:alt.www.webmaster.ads is one.

o add a brief message (including URL) to your sig (please research proper
format of sig) to any usenet group including this one - providing the
content of your post is on-topic.

o subscribe to usenet groups and web forums where your target users hang
out - become a useful member of that group.

There's more but frankly serious online marketing requires as much thought
and effort as more traditional methods.

Good luck.

It really isn't that hard - but it does take some thinking.

Sometimes it helps to look at it from the other end - for instance, if
you were a restaurant owner, would this be a product which could be an
asset to your current business?

You can also think about it like - how can this product help
such-and-such a business. If your answer includes a phrase similar to
"a whole new area of...", you're on the wrong track. Successful
businesses are conservative (they have to be!) and don't just jump into
something new without a lot of study and risk analyses. So look for
someone doing something similar - maybe not an auction, but something
like online sales where an auction might be another asset.

You also need to look at specific advantages of your product over the
competitors. For instance, EBay has a distinct advantage in that it has
millions of users. I could probably sell something on EBay and get a
higher price than on my own website, even after paying EBay's cut.
That's because they have so many more visitors seeing my ad. It makes a
difference. How can your product help there? Benefits may be tangible
or intangible.

But please don't get discouraged. Everyone goes though a learning curve
like this their first time out. And there are a lot of successful
people out there.

You might also want to visit some of the business and marketing related
newsgroups for additional help on those topics.

I use www.showyoursite.com.

Adverts are free and of the 468x60 banner variety.

The "cost" as it were, is that you have to display other members of
the scheme banner adverts yourself.

We do this through our third-party advertising agencies, these supply
banner adverts to our pages, and when they have no paid adverts to
display, supply a "default" advert instead, these default adverts we
can set to be our own or adverts from another agency, in this case the
showyoursite banner exchange.

If you have a larger budget, then you might like to consider the
advertising agencies, such as Valueclick and Casale, which can provide
paid advertising solutions with sophisticated levels of targeted
delivery.

It's only easy AFTER you've figured it out. Keep trying.

That about covers it ... completely. Might refine the target a bit.

Don't be discourage. The manner of your post and the approach to the
question bodes well for your efforts.
