I have a question on server time
|
|
|
| I have a host that is running linux redhat and they are back east. I
have on the west coast and some of my scripts do not have the time
offset built into them. Being a NOOB it will be pretty difficult to
find which file I need to enter the date / time stuff. Is there a way
that I can upload some sort of file to always correct the time?
Thanks...

What's the "correct time"? I'm on the east coast, so your server time
is fine to me. Others here are from other parts of the world - Great
Britain, the Philippines and so on. If they viewed your site, what
would be the "correct time"?

Why does the time matter?
If it's to timestamp something in a server side database then the current
server time applies.
If it's to tell me, the viewer, what time it is then I already know what
time it is in Australia.

So fix the scripts. _They're_ where the problem is, not the server
timestamp.
Next person who asks me this gets their fingers broken. 8-(

Language/environment?
What do the scripts do with the time?

The scripts display EST and I need PST.
I don't want to have to change every script that shows a date/time. Is
there a way to make like one file that will always change the time. I
mean can I insert: $currentTime=time()-(3*60*60); anywhere in the php
file that displays the date/time?

I'm going to assume that you've read and understood the comments made by=
=
others in this thread and that you have some sensible reason for showing=
=
the time at your location.

almost certainly - although you'll have to wait for a PHP guru to wander=
=
past for the detail. perhaps date/time manipulation is mentioned in the=
=
langusge documentation?

Out of interest, why do you want to show the server time?

| Hi - I don't want to show the server time, I want to show my time PST
and not the servers timestamp EST.

Then get the clients date/time using javascript (getDate()).
