Recommend a Dedicated Server Host in UK please?
|
|
| coleby@gmail.com 2006-08-15, 6:38 pm |
| Hi, just hoping to get a personal recommendation or 2 for a managed
dedicated server here in the UK.
Fasthosts caught my eye and the prices seem reasonable.
Anyone use them? What's customer service like?
Thanks in advance.

Suffice to say, despite being UK-based I use a Canadian company in
Canada.
Though, William Tasso can assist you, if you don't mind paying for
quality (you did imply you wanted a managed server, not just rent a
box in a rack?)

Used them once, for a few months. As a lawyer once said "I am unable
to recommend them"

When I was with them their reliability was poor, and their customer service
was worse.
This British deal caught my eye:

Haven't used them, so can't recommend from experience.

I use Poundhost, and I'm quite happy with them. Smallish company,
friendly service - the website is a bit pants, but I'm not paying them
for their design!

That's all I need to hear.
Yeah I seem to recall seeing 123's ads running on the back of
web-related magazines fairly regularly.
Thanks for your replies.

Sometimes that's a good sign. It could mean that they are concentrating on
other things, like keeping their servers running.

| A small update:
123reg advertise unlimited monthly bandwidth. So I asked them what kind
of per second bandwidth restrictions there were if any. Twice. They
won't answer me. Am I asking a stupid question here?

No, not at all. And if they don't answer, you know not to proceed with
them.
Have you tried Pipex? BT?

Aye, the term 'bandwidth' - and the answer given - should be sufficient
information.

They are owned by Pipex, you know how these big companies are.

I assumed he had, from his desire for a UK dedicated server with large
bandwidth.
