Author Why won't Google Index me?
needin4mation@gmail.com

I am in yahoo and msn and rank well, but I can't even get indexed in
Google. I don't know what to do. I'm going to upgrade my software
(dnn CMS), maybe that will help. Any ideas? It's been 9 months.
Thank you for any ideas.

They don't like you. They don't like your site, either.
Without an URL there is not much to say.

Well, I didn't want to put it on here because I was afraid someone
would say I was spamming. I am guessing it is okay to put it? I was
just asking for general help. Thanks.

I don't blame you for being hesitant, some people are pretty sensitive
about such stuff.

I would imagine in light of your reply, that no-one could object to you
posting the URL.

Posting an URL to a site for which you want assistance the preferred
method. The site contains all the elements and context needed to provide a
useful answer.

Okay. Thanks. http://www.pansandmore.com. It does well in Yahoo and
MSN, no Google, not even indexed.

Entire menu system is reliant on JavaScript for operation - this is a
major obstacle.

I believe you, but how do Yahoo and MSN do it then?

Does it really make a difference? If you want Google to index you, you
need to abide by their rules.

I finally made it! And at number 36 no less.

If you type if cookware reviews in Google you can see:

www.pansandmore.com

Thanks for the help guys!

I believe I may have made it because on one of my pages I disabled the
menu and used a pure CSS menu, perhaps it picked up that page and then
back up to the top domain.

Which makes me wonder if I should switch to something like WordPress
and prettyurls. Should I change it once it has been indexed? I can't
be afraid to change it forever.

Thanks again.

I had another thread asking the same thing about indexing. I just want
to understand.

It is very frustrating..........

Nearly 5 months now and yahoo and msn no problem but put my site
www.sungolfer.com into search on google and nothing. I know they have
viewed it but what is the reason for no listing.

Nobody has been able to say why. Have contacted and spoken to many
people but everybody says different ideas or reasons for why this has
happened.

Have been told it will be indexed soon for the lasr 3 months...........

I wish I could help. I believe mine was because of a javascript
menu..that and much prayer. On the other hand, Google tends to index
my other sites within a day or two. Strange. Sorry.

I came across another possible reason by accident.

My own bargain-price 15MB web page came as part of a dial-up connection
deal from my ISP. After a few months I noticed Google wasn't indexing
it, and spent ages unsuccessfully trying all the suggested fixes on the
Net. Eventually I found Google's submit-and-validate service which
requires adding their customised Meta tag and a site map. Success!

But there was another problem - it had a zero ranking and I spent a lot
of time unsuccessfully trying to improve that, until I thought to check
the rank of my ISP's parent domain and found that was also zero! I am
guessing sub-pages cannot have a higher rank than their root domain.

Presumably that's also why Google didn't index it without some
prodding.

I am guessing the ISP does that deliberately to limit traffic and keep
its costs down. They do have higher priced web pages and I am wondering
if it is worth paying for an upgrade. Or whether there are more
cost-effective remedies...

Anyone know whether the choice of a web host has much effect on
rankings in general? And where I can find info on customised
search-engine Meta tags?

I'd guess that was incorrect.

well - an s/e spider needs to know about your page before it can crawl
it. Essentially there are two methods to alert spiders to your page.

o Tell them about it - register or whatever
o Link to it from a page theu already know about.

I'd guess most here prefer the latter although there are becoming more
interesting ways of performing the former.

the bad neighbourhood theory?

hrmm - seen the rumours, not sure of substance.

I'd guess that too. As far as I can tell, Google rates each page on its
own merit.
