OT: "The Recruit" - Colin Farrell, Al Pacino
|

| This film was on BBC 1 tonight. Glimpse of a computer screen shows Colin
Farrell's character has been using Opera 5. He seems to have covered his
tracks by viewing some innocuous website after he'd finished what he was
really looking for. (Perhaps he also used Opera's "Delete Private Data"
function?)
Next on BBC 1 tonight: "Firefox" with Clint Eastwood. Seriously.

Terrible movie. Seriously.
Like all adolescent American males in the 80s, I enjoyed a good "Ruskie
Bashing" in the movies (i.e. Red Dawn), but I found Firefox unbearable.

LOL
it is amazing how technology and gadgets have moved on in the 20 years
since then.
Their cutting edge gadgets now look big and bulky by modern standards.
where will we be in another 20 years!

The books were infinitely better....But the movie was a fun bit of escapism
too IMO.....

And was totally ruined, as is often the case, by an IT- related
plot-kludge (I paraphrase):
"we've written a computer virus the can be put into the mains
supply from any electrical device, so it bypasses firewalls".
Scriptwriters would never (kids sci-fi and comedy aside) do this with
other technologies
"We've made a car that can turn 90 degrees at 90 mph"
"We've made a shirt that irons itself"
"we've made a table that sobers you up instantly"
BTW, uk.media.tv.misc is that way -->

One can only assume the scriptwriters have read a passinge reference to this
product somewhere, and filled in all the gaps with their own over-active
imagination.....

Ah, I remember those. Before Wireless caught on Network-over-Mains-Power
was billed as the "next big thing". I wonder if they're still making this
equipment or if Maplin is just trying to sell off their old stock?
Yes, it was a stupid bit of plot; but almost every bit of plot involving
computers in any film is stupid. (Except of course Matrix Reloaded.

Ditto -- that's why I stick with Opera.
And Colin Farrell agrees with me. (Though I supposed technically he was
using Bridget Moynahan's computer, so maybe she's the Opera fan.)

Warner Studios has anounced further sequels to it's popular film The
Matrix. Sequels will be titled: The Matrix Transposed, The Matrix
Inverted, The Matrix Rotated, The Matrix Scaled, The Matrix
Translated, The Matrix Identity and finally The Matrix Determinant.
After the full run of Matrix films an anonymous source has indicated
the studio has expressed interest in a series based upon Sine, Cosine
and Tangent, with options on Secant, Cosecant, Arcsine, etc. if
interest persists.
