hi yall! i posted regarding this issue a month or so back. regarding
googlebot and how it hasn't been by our site since the 1st cache back
in January of this year. Can anyone shed light on this? could google
have banned this site for whatever reason? (i dont' know what it has
against visiting us). just seems odd that it doesn't even come by to
refresh or anything. the same placeholder page we've had up since last
year is still in the cache version of the site.

does it not like day spas? :)

any feedback is very much welcomed.

Suppose you fix it. Suppose your site is doing great with visits from
Google (sounds like you rely on them). Supposing next day it drops off the
radar. What will you do then?

SNAFU

wander off down the pub?

I agree with you 100% on this Charles. The search engine indexes are a
welcome bonus. I'm all for making life easy for visitors and spiders
alike, but there's little point in losing any sleep over them.

My customers remember my trading name, therefore they remember my site
name - they use it mostly as an aide memoire for my contact details. My
personal site operates in a similar fashion.

Come google, come MSN, come one and all, but remember it's a mutually
beneficial relationship - once it verges on the parasitic I'll shut the
door.

Well, first I'd buy a deserted tropical isle, then fake my own death
and... uh. Actually, my master plan is NOTHING LIKE THAT. NOTHING AT ALL
to do with deserted tropical isles and faking my own death, no sir!
FORGET EVERYTHING I JUST SAID.

yes actually, we have a link from http://www.nationalbreastcancer.org/.
we are donating a portion of our advertiser revenue to this cause. the
page our link is on has good google page rank.

we don't rely on them but you can't ignore the traffic. the site has
been spidered by yahoo and msn just fine so i'm just a little
perplexed.

Don't worry about it. I don't think Ebay or Amazon got where they are with
the help of GoogleBot.

Speaking of which. A number of years ago I emailed Amazon, and asked them
what they put their success down to. I got a reply from a senior figure.
Long since deleted it, but I recall it was from a very significant player
in the organisation.

What do you suppose they put their success down to?

Word of mouth advertising and brand recognition, I would guess.

Thanks for all the replies guys!

Looks like Mark wins it. Advertising was the answer (not specifically word
of mouth).
