Is anyone getting a database error when they view this page?
http://www.norfolklupus.co.uk/events.asp

If I upload the exact same file with the name "events1.asp" it works, but
change the name to events.asp and it throws up an error.....The weird thing
is, it works fine on the server I was using to develop it....
Thanks.

Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

'd:\databases\events.mdb' is not a valid path. Make sure that the path name
is spelled correctly and that you are connected to the server on which the
file resides.

/events.asp, line 116

Without any idea what your code looks like, it would be impossible to tell you
what's going on.

As far as I can see there is no problem...The file is a duplicate of
http://www.norfolklupus.co.uk/events1.asp and that works just fine...It's
crazy.....

Aaaah, Interesting....
If I delete both files from the server completely, they still remain
available to view at their url's......
Perhaps there's a problem with my hosts servers at the moment......

P.S. I know this isn't what you asked for yet, but your color scheme
is very hard to read, due to lack of contrast. Anyone with any visual
impairment is going to want to give up and go home.

Noted.....They did want a 'soothing' feel to the sites colour
scheme....Maybe I've made it a bit too soothing, LOL....Some tweaks to the
colour scheme are in order then.....

I'd keep the blue background but lighten it a bit in the main text
area, use black instead of blue for the writing, and not use fixed
font - people with vision problems need to be able to use their
prefered font sizes.

For the headings and navigation, you can keep the white font if you
darken the blue background somewhat, to give more contrast.

Cheers guys for all your help.....
I'm pretty convinced it's an issue with my hosts servers, not updating the
files I'm uploading.....I've issued a support request to them, and I'm off
to bed now to sleep on it.....I'll let y'awll know what happens when they
get back to me.....

good plan - btw: I'd be surprised if yhis is a valid path to your mdb:
'd:\databases\events.mdb', I'd expect a user-name/site-id/whatever to be
in there someplace.

Could it be that the script is somehow using its own filename to map to
the database file it needs? In such a case, the events1.asp code would
try to access "d:\databases\events1.mdb" which may be the correct
filename, while events.asp would try to access "d:\databases\events.mdb"
which is giving you the error.

That's my guess.

That just seems to be what the server is spitting out in the error
message....
The actual line of code reads :-
strConnect = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" &
Server.MapPath("../databases/events.mdb") & ";"

When I originally uploaded the page, there was an error in the code, which I
corrected, but I was still getting the same error message.....So I
duplicated the file on the server and renamed it "events1.asp" (identical
code) and strangely enough, it works.....

It seems that the server is letting me upload new files and they work
instantly, but it won't let me delete or update files once they're up
there.....

Anyway, I need sleep now.....Off to me bed.....

Just checked the database name, and it's definitely events.mdb
Just duplicated it again and renamed it "diary.asp" and that one works
too.....It's just "events.asp" that won't work, despite the fact that all
the others are just copy'n'pastes of that file.....
Weirder and weirderer.....

I've seen that happen before, but only once - sorry, I've no idea what
causes it. I spent maybe 20-30 minutes trying to find/fix before the
client agreed to a server reboot, which cleared the problem.

Is the "D:\" drive a network share? If so this can cause funny problems,
as Windows maps drive letters for network shares on a user-by-user basis,
not system-wide. (Stupid Windows.) The D: drive might not be mapped when
logged in as the user who owns the web server process. The solution would
be to use its full path "\\SERVERNAME\sharename\databases\events.mdb".

It aint pretty but it works (errr, normaly).....My own particular brand of
coding tends to be a bit *frankenstein* in nature ;-)

Ooh bugger....I can just imagine Redstations response if I ask them to
reboot a server.....

Me? yes....
The site? not so much.....
I've taken everything over onto one of the servers hosting my sites, and I'm
going to complete the development there before moving everything over to the
right one when Redstation pick up my support ticket.....That's probably
gonna be Tuesday now due to the bank holiday.....
