scripts to stress-test a chat server script? (using wget, curl, what not...)

| Hi all:
First thanks for reading this thread. I'm trying to stress-test some
PHP-based chat scripts like phpopenchat (http://www.phpopenchat.org)
and Lace (http://socket7.net/lace/), but would like to see how well
they could scale (scalibility) for a larger web site community. So I'm
trying to do some stress-testing for these servers (see
http://130.212.230.23/lace/ for example).. does anyone has good idea or
know of any existing tool that I could stress test and see its
limitation for these chat scripts? Also some people suggested that I
could try to use "wget" or "curl" to write a simple script, and called
repeatedly from the script for testing, but I'm not sure how to get
started, any suggestions?? Many thanks!
