Hover problem in IE
|
|
| mm@malin.pl 2006-04-25, 6:54 am |
| Hi.
I found the great method of making an image gallery using hover effect
- http://host.sonspring.com/hoverbox/
I wanted to use it in my project but I encountered a problem in IE.
When I add WIDTH attribute to LI tag the hover effect doesn't work.
Here is the example - http://malin.pl/ng/width.html
Does anybody know a solution how to avoid this bug
thanks,
malin

If you read his posting you'll notice that he is using a real browser.
Perhaps not your preferred browser, but a real browser nevertheless.
I agree with your sentiments though - this does appear to be a bug in IE and
having had a brief play with it I can't see an obvious work around.

And ignore over 80% of the Internet surfing community? That's not a
very sensible suggestion, is it Jerry?

Even I check my site in IE to be sure it is at least "acceptable." I'm
tired of tinkering to death to compensate for IEs strict adherance to
"standards." The advantage of Firefox, Opera, Mozilla et al is that they
are more forgiving. I heard that here and checked it out myself ... tis
true.

| Jerry,
how you know which browser I use?
I know that 71,6% of my target group use IE.
I dont make web sites for myserf so I have to adjust my work to their
choice.
Thank you Brian for your answer. I hoped that it's known bug and there
is already some solution.
regards,
malin

Your title said:
"Hover problem in IE"
I know of only one program which claimers to be a browser and is identified by
the nickname "IE".
The point is - trying to work around the bugs in IE is a lost cause. Make it
look good, but don't let all the bugs in IE restrict you. Either forget about
the hover effect altogether, or let people who use real browsers have it and
forget about IE.
I admit the hover effect is nice. But I'm also on a broadband connection. I
wonder how quickly it loads on a dialup connection (having to download both the
thumbnails and the larger pics)?

Sure is, Matt. Something like the hover effect is nice - but not necessary for
the page.
