webmasters guild in the UK

| Hi guys does anyone know of a webmasters "guild" in the uk or international?
I tried googling but i just got some dodgy looking "tutorial" pages.
If such a beast exsists, is it worth it?

What do you want?
If it's just an excuse for a chin-wag & piss-up we can start our own :)
Some may consider we already have - there have been occasions when more
than one webmaster from this group have been present at the same watering
hole.

Sounds good to me <g>

Indeed.
The problem, as I see it, is that there can't currently be a guild in
the sense of a "professional body" as there aren't any organisations
that regulate webmasters in the way that say doctors or architects are
regulated. The best one can hope for in a social network where
webmasters can meet up at organised gatherings to talk about stuff and
things, get pissed and maybe try to conquer the world.
Once that's sorted you can think about having some sort of professional
integrity ;)

Yours?
On a serious note, it would be very nice to have a get together just
after the New Year. I'd suggest London as it's the easiest place for
most folk to get to - ok, so it's a couple of hundred miles away from
me, but it's relatively easy to get to ;) Regarding time and date, well
a weekend is usually the best bet as it doesn't require time off work!
Either way, we've attempted to arrange things like this before, and it
doesn't usually work, so no breath holding ;)

I'd be up for it if its in London (faaar to lazy to travel), but persuading
the missus I'm going to London for "buisiness" might take some doing with a
new baby clammouring for attention!

HTML Writers' Guild <http://www.hwg.org/> is an international guild. Yes,
they do promote their training services (and historically their training
has not had a great reputation), but they are a genuine professionals
association.
In London there is also The Worshipful Company of Information
Technologists <http://www.wcit.org.uk/Home>. Stop sniggering. They're one
of the City of London's livery companies. The livery companies are
London's traditional guilds, dating back to before William the Conqueror
(though the WCIT is one of the newer ones obviously) and they are the ones
who elect the Lord Mayor of London -- not to be confused with the Mayor of
London. (The City of London is quite possibly the world's oddest form of
democracy.)

I'll keep all that in mind, January could work for me :-)

Maybe cause I wasn't involved in those attempts ;-)

I'm sure there are really nice baby stores in London, so you could
"combine work and leisure" :-)

Yes it does.
I have met with, okay no names mentioned, but certain persons on some
occassions. There were three of us who made it to one London meet.
Or perhaps we could meet for a rowdy weekend in Blackpool?

On a small enough scale, yes.

Yep. You've probably met the same people as me, give or take. I reckon
between us all, we've probably all met everyone else ;)

We've had soires in Wales, Basingstoke and London and even a BBQ in
the New Forest.
We're actually quite a sophisticated group this side of the water.

I like the Wikipedia entry. Now _that's_ being angry at your kid
brother.
"as the result of a prank played by his younger brothers William Rufus
and Henry, who had dumped fetid water on him. Robert was enraged, and
urged on by his companions, started a brawl with his brothers that was
only interrupted by the intercession of their father. Feeling that his
dignity was wounded, Robert was further angered when King William
failed to punish his brothers. The next day Robert and his followers
attempted to seize the castle of Rouen. "
