Auth Code to transfer domains out of Registerfly?
|
|
|
| Hello,
Has anyone recently navigated the Registerfly website (the new one) to
get the Authorization Code to escape...I mean transfer away from them?
I am told it will display at the bottom of the contact info page for a
domain when one is in change/edit mode. I am logged in and seeing
editable fields but no auth code.
Thanks

| Well it looks like I can answer my own question.
I was able to get these "auth codes" by logging into my Registerfly
account then "Manage Accounts" and listing all domains. Next I did a
"download as xls" and opened the Excel file - viola, there will be a
column called Domain ID for each domain. The numbers in this column
appear to satisfy the Auth Code requirement. How crazy is that?

I escaped long ago (thank God), won't even consider buying one to push
into their crap. I am almost sure you know that some TLD's don't
require Auth Code, but do require that the domain not be locked...
Domain locking is probably in the same area. Seems to me they have
rude telephone assistance, or was it Wild West? I would try calling or
email support, shouldn't take toooooooo long.

It seems there is a new policy that even .com and .net domains now
need an auth code to transfer domains. A decent registrar should be
able to get this to you in a day or so, if not immediately. Now if
you're trying to escape from registerfly, better plan on at least a
week. I'd say start at least 2 months ahead of time (before
expiration) if you're trying to get a domain out of regfly. Right now
it seems the fastest way is to create a support ticket to get auth
codes. Perhaps they'll add a domain owner immediate lookup process
(like they had for .org) but I am not holding my breath.

Well it seems I did not answer my own question and the above is WRONG.

Good luck with RegisterFreaks. My boss was a customer for two or three years
and had no problems until they switched from being an eNom reseller to being
an ICANN-accredited registrar in their own right. Then everything went to
hell, and RF's customer support people were not empowered to solve any of
the problems. I actually called eNom. eNom transferred our domains out of
the RF reseller account to a retail account so we could renew/transfer them
as necessary.

Okay, I think this will be my last post on this topic. It seems that
Registerfly just updated their forms and the Auth or EPP code for .com
and .net appears at the bottom of the domain contact page.
An ENOM user reports that this also just started happening in their
domain management system.

Interesting. I checked my .net domains through the website of the
registrar reseller I use, and sure enough, there are now auth codes
for my .net domains as well as my .org domains. Not that I have any
intention of transferring any of my domains, but I like the fact that
the auth codes are right there in plain view.

| Well I am glad to report that some of my domains transfered away from
registerfly just in the nick of time. It would have really chapped my
XXX to have to renew with Regfly.
I'd also like to make a plug for
http://domaindiary.net/
Which is a frequently updated listing of news and events affecting
domains.
