free community web forum?
|

| Someone has asked me regarding a free community type forum - for his
band/musicians across the world to all be able to interact online in a
website (ie chat/discuss and interact on new songs..
I used to recall setting up a communityzero.com site for someone a few
years ago. But i think they now charge.
Does anyone know of a free community type website setup/host?
ie
an interactive website that allows a group of people to communicate and
exchange information over the Internet in their own private and secure
area. Within each area, called an online community, participants are
provided access to a suite of powerful tools that enable a group to
effectively get organized, share knowledge and communicate.

Most Freebie Hosts have tons of issues, but there are a few decent that keep
good uptimes and don't throttle features, pound ads...etc.

Good resource.

| also meant to say that 'hosting' is not the key thing i was seeking. The
potential client asked about a community type forum...eg like
communityzero.
Only he wanted soemthing that was free.

I really don't know of any personally. I run one but it's domain free
hosting, not just subdomain community stuff.
Stability is the key. If you've got the time, check their offers section,
then post maybe in the open and search for reviews.
Remember, it's unusual for a Freebie to stay up and running, most don't last
longer than 6 months, so look for the long term.

that's true

good point, John...and the way that i would recommend.
but i think they want something free and dead easy to use, ie all done for
them on some online forum.
maybe i should rcommend yahoo groups (not a fave of mine, but would do
their job)

Let the fans set something up (it is for a band, isn't it?). And 20
USD/year is as close to free as it gets. You get a nice, cool domain name
(easier to remember), and there is often, besides a forum also chat, FAQ
management, etc. And often easy to set up too (I had my own board up and
running in 10 minutes).
