Would you do that to your collegues? Count how many messages they sent in
the office and post it for everyone?

You know when you look at it all, the whole usenet, you find that 90 percent of
the people online are trolls. Its very impersonal, which is the definition of trolls.

So it also makes sense to just shut down the troll business. But that's my trolling
for once to show how that is done.

The English are XXXXing trolls. There are so many trolls in England. Germans write
viruses. Russians they hijack computers and steal everything, all your data and
credit cards, anything they can find. The Spaniards are full of spams for ads. Americans
they do it all but they do it big. Like Google and Double-Click and those billion
dollar marketing companies. Africans are scammers. They send you you won million in
lottery and as the winner died he left your address but send $150 processing fee first.
They are all trolls really. They are part of the trollworld.

There is nothing wrong with killing, Google Groups. Believe me.

Perhaps. I've circulated lists of people using up too much space on our
mail server before. If we had a problem of too much inbound/outbound mail,
then it may make sense to "name and shame".

Welcome back from your holiday, Toby. I would recommend that you ignore
our latest troll (gb7648) - he has been posting crap for the last couple
of weeks, and is quite clearly a nut.

This one is seriously nutty in a not-all-there kind of way though.

Completely insane even? He starts a thread and then posts replies to
himself....I think he's taking schizophrenia a bit *too* far!

schizophrenia has nothing to do with talking to yourself afaik. It just
means that at times the person who suffers from it experiences a different
reality compared to most people.

I assume that Matt was confusing schizophrenia with multiple
personality disorder.

Most people do.

Aside: My sister-in-law has a T-shirt:

Yup, schizophrenia is often called split personality. The Matrix probably
gives a better idea :-)

Technically, no one's reality is exactly the same as anyone else's. :)

Isn't MPD one form/manifestation/flavor of schizophrenia?

Roses are red
Violets are blue
I'm schizophrenic
And so am I

True, but the reality of a psychosis is quite unreal :-)

AFAIK, no. Schizophrenia is, as far as I know, that ones "inputs" somehow
give the wrong signals and/or are interpreted incorrectly, and one
experiences a different reality. (It's like watching the world through a
red candy wrapper).

MPD is IIRC not officially recognised (or was, maybe this has changed) as
an mental illness and is often (again IIRC) caused by severe abuse in ones
youth. IIRC the different personalities are ways to escape reality. (or
something like that).

In other news that I did not know:

"In 1994, the American Psychiatric Association's DSM-IV replaced the
designation of MPD with DID: dissociative identity disorder."

http://skepdic.com/mpd.html

That's in the first paragraph; then the rest of the loooong article
calls it MPD. :)

It's called a "psychiatric disorder" on that site, which I guess means
in PC Newspeak that it's not a mental illness. But, then, I wouldn't be
surprised to find that in PC Newspeak *nothing* is a mental illness.
Got seven personalities? You're Wonderfully Other Abled!

Thanks John. My mistake, I should have added a "<g>" to the end of my
humour.

You can't. They only come in packs of three.

No, they are completely different disorders. MPD is a dissociative
disorder whereas schizophrenia is not. Schizophrenia is a psychotic
disorder, but MPD isn't.

Being tortured in a prison for a year or so works often.

Addition, and again IIRC: dissociative disorders are escapes from
reality, mostly due to an overstimulation of the flight mechanism. My
personal idea is that dissociation is a natural way to escape reality,
and hence make it possible to freeze and make no sudden movements when a
predator is looking for you. Overstimulation makes that someone is out
of reality too often.

A psychotic disorder is an incorrect interpretation of "reality". But
again, in my opinion/idea, can happen during a panic attack. So
dissociation and psychosis can happen "next" to each other, but are
different things.
