It's a big step to go from reporting the news

to being the news

How much longer before Google is making/controlling the news?

Watch out for the black helicopters - some of them are real.

Still, it's an impressive story.

Despite being fairly objective on this one, even the Guardian can't help
fawning at the new master's feet.

I can't see it being a particularly popular thing. Ultimately, and IMHO
of course, similar things were the downfall of previous dominating
search engines like Yahoo and Excite. It's good though that the homepage
thing is an option though, because unlike Yahoo and Excite et al you
have the choice to not have a cluttered interface.

Ding ding, and a bingo to boot. That was my first thought. The beauty
of Google when it first came out, was that it was a search engine,
nothing else. This gave it a unique position over the others at the
time who went down the portal route, and disappeared off the radar.

Yep. This is crucial.
