Thanks

I think you'll find that this type of 'shameless plug' in response to a
request for info is largely acceptable in this group.

However, please note that if you continue to post unrequested
'announcements' in this group you will be branded a spammer. I cannot
tell you what the consequences of that will be [1] but I suspect you're
smart enough to work out some possible scenarious yourself.

William,

We have removed alt.www.webmaster from the list of postings (left
alt.www.webmaster.ads in as I guess that's what it's for?) and keep our
postings to 1 a week to prevent complaints where possible!

We are based in the UK, although the servers are in the US. Full details can
be found on the website.

You guys may be able to answer a question for us. We are looking at
providing VPS hosting, how much need is there for this? and what would you
class as being an 'ideal plan' based on expericence.

Thanks
Greg

Cyrstal Ball Returned - We don't want to be branded like that!

good man!

I suspect you should check with any other groups you post in - never hurts
to make sure your announcements will not be met with hostility.

Correct. Take a wee look at the FAQ docs for each group (if you haven't
already). They'll give a fairly good idea of which-way-is-up.

I don't currently post announcements in news:alt.www.webmaster.ads - I
can't remember what the guidelines are, once a week sounds acceptable to
me.

How do you manage trivial operations like RAM upgrades?

Are you considering Windows or *n*x virtual servers? I'd say the market
for each is considerably different.

np - please do consider popping by this group from time to time and
contributing where you can/want to.

Thank you :)

oh good

Welcome to AWW

Now, may I make further recommendations? I'm, going to anyway <g> .....

This is a largely friendly group, mostly made up of professional hosts and
site builders with a healthy contingent of enthusiastic amateurs. In the
main, folk here like things to be plain and simple and they will kick up a
bit of a fuss when they get confused. One thing which is guarateed to
cause confusion is the practice of Top-Posting. Please do try to remember
to position your cursor beneath the text you are replying to and note that
while this is a fairly standard Usenet convention there are several groups
where the reverse is true.

Seems you are using Outlook Express as your news client. Take a look
here: http://home.in.tum.de/~jain/softwar...x/downloads.php

If 'why' questions are your thing, consider the possible connotations of
"When in Rome ....", or trivially, it just doesn't make any sense ....

he heh - it's not just the message, (as Miranda often reminds us) it's
also the delivery.

OK - OE With Quotefix now running, posting at the bottom, no more posting
ads to this group... I think i'm there, just hope my partners don't see the
mess up I have made of all this :)

Upgrades are carried out by onsite engineers. (part of the data centre).

VPS hosting we are looking at is Linux, virutal Windows hosting is too
expensive (more so for the end user) and unecconimical, so we are looking at
Linux VPS hosting. We've compared a lot of other hosting companies
offerings, but also noted a few complaints about the plans being
unrealistic.

Anyhows.. thanks for all the pointers - i'll keep my nose clean from here on
in.

Cheers
Greg

Not yet you're not. You might get more reaction to your "news"
announcement earlier.

It's a good idea also to put your name (or for some people an assumed name)
in your From: field. Some people regard a business name there as being a
bit on the spammy side.
