OT: Thunderbird mail Q.

| I've got a nice shiny new laptop - allowing me to work anywhere in the
house thanks to the wonder of wireless.
However, although I can sync my working folders between laptop and main
pc - it would be nice to sync my thunderbird mail + address book.
I've tried just doing a sync on the mail folders that thunderbird uses
on my main pc, and my laptop - but to no avail nothing happens - I can
only assume the directory structures are slightly different due to the
naming convention I used on each machine.
Seems, the only way is to tick the 'leave messages on server' box.
Anyone, experienced anything similar and found a solution?
Could Thunderbird be made to use a remote mail folder i.e so the laptop
uses the mail folder on the main pc and address book?

Yes, it can. "Tools > Account Settings > Server Settings > Local
directory". Simply copy your emails from your profile directory (usually
in "C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application
Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\RANDOM_STRING\Mail") to a network accessible
location, and then in the settings change the local directory to
wherever you have put your emails.
I have sucessfully used this method for keeping my emails on a
thumbdrive and taking them to and from work each day.

Does your unspecified flavor of Windows have the Briefcase utility that
used to ship as a Windows accessory? If so, that would sync parallel
directories on the two computers, and they wouldn't have to live within
identical directory trees.
