| I have just spotted a PageRank update in three separate domains of mine, so
I suppose we all should have a look.
If I shouldn't point it out in this NG, please just tell me.

Those that actually care about page rank should. Not everyone gets
obsessive about PR. It's but one of many inputs into the SERPS algo(s)

So far as I know: page rank is perfectly on-topic here.

Yep, I could really care less about PR anymore. I admit being interested
when I first found about it but I quickly lost interest.
What I care about are my end of the month stats showing me visits etc.
which my site(s) have received. :0)

Because PR is a very strong factor when people buy and sell links. So
some people may well be interested. Not all.

There's one born every day I suppose.

I do that for my house-sales site, but have no interest/need in doing so
for my personal site, for all it is.
My point is (as always with PR) if people spend a lot of time and/or
money on it, then they would be better off packing up and going home.

You could be right. The pagerank of my site is unchanged, but one of my
"busy" pages has dropped a rank.
But as others have pointed out, page rank (or at least the rank that you and
me can see) is less of an indication these days of google's true ranking of
your site.

Brian

I work on an even lower level of abstraction -- I just keep an eye on the
overdraft. :-)

Have a look at alt.internet.search-engines. We are having a discussion there
which emphasises exactly that fact. Google cares more about rich content,
not links, especially artificial ones (e.g. mutual or unrelated).

Yes, quite a discussion and quite informative. I'll keep an eye on that
group from now on.
Thanks,
Brian.
