| I did a google for best albums of 2005 (being a big music fan)
And here is a wonderful list of lists, from joe public and all the main
music magazines..indicating their top ten albums for 2005.
I am either getting old, or else there is pure rubbish in the charts these
times. I didn't recognise anything among these lists. Heck, even the big
music magazines couldn't agree in general terms on their top ten albums of
the year.

I have got so depressed with the charts in the past 15 years.
ALl we ever hear now is manufactured bands, and pop-idol/X-factor type
karaoke singers.
And don't start me on wankers such as McFly.

How old are you if i might ask?
I've heard of a lot of them on the lists, but think the lists were
chosen for personal favorites, not really based on sales or popularity
or whatever.

i know one or two people who are dismissive of my view re modern
music........and they'll say so and so is brilliant. But when i challenge
them to name me a song of the artist's that I should look out for, they
struggle.

I quite like them, having said that any group that plays it's own instruments
are OK by me...
So that includes Busted, Oasis, Darkness, Franz, even Coldplay [1] and of
course the Stones (but I think they should pack it in now, don't need the money
and well over pensionable age).
[1] Coldplay - I did get the Parachutes album and listening to it made me SO
depressed I put Radiohead on :((

no say it ain't so, doobie!
busted, oasis, coldplay, radiohead, mcfly, etc are absolutely everything i
detest.
mcfly were on that CD-UK Xmas special a few days ago (i never watch the
show) and they covered 'Let it Snow, Let it Snow'. Dear oh dear oh dear.
One could go down to my local pub on a karaoke night, and fall over drunk
on the floor and land at the feet of a more talented outfit.

If you do not recognize either Kraftwerk or Ry Cooder then you are
either old or pay little attention to music.
(I also saw Dylan and Depeche Mode and Springsteen and Neil Diamond on
the lists.)

ahh... that explains why System of a Down isn't at the top of all sales
charts... too many people "Steal This Album" ...
Of course, when you're able to land gigs like ozzfest, reading, big day
out, etc. I'd assume the exposure and ticket sales more than make up for
it...

I'll assume, then, that you don't play guitar or synth. If you play
synth then at least listen to Kraftwerk, they are an important band.
If you play guitar then give yourself a few head slaps and get
yourself some Ry Cooder. It is unfortunate that some of his best work
was done for movies. Take a listen to the Walter Hill _Crossroads_ or
_The Long Riders_. At the very least I would have hoped you would know
of his work putting together _The Buena Vista Social Club_.

Not really. Both are very old tymee if you know what that means.
Gillian has been described as pathologically authentic. Iris has one
of those sweet high pure voices that just chills me. And as long as
you are at it get some Emmylou Harris. And if you have some but don't
have _Red Dirt Girl_ then get it. Wow!
