How or where I can detect what is causing 301 redirects to show AWSTAT
stats?

I don't have any 301 redirects, and haven't used any, so I wonder what is
causing lot of 301 redirects to shown in awstat statistics?

Where should I start to find out reason for those? Or how do I detect 301
redirect happening in the first place? Can it done with PHP in page or what?

A very common "default" reason for 301's is the result of SEPRS not
providing the "/" at the end of directory only URL.
Your server picks up the invalid (http://www.mysite/folder ) and redirects
it to
http://www.mysite/folder/

I don't recall what SE does this without looking, however one is a more
vaild offender than all the others combined.

It's NOT through no fault or error of yours.
It's the way the SE's list the URL. It's their error in simple designation
of root folders without a file name after the folder.
