Is it possible to reference the html browsers document object heirarchy from
javascript inside vrml scene ?

Not directly
one could think of

- doing a glue script in a html javascript, accessing the HTML dom and
passing relevant bits
to a script running in VRML.
- have a custom application embedding the HTML browser,
and using a native COM script available in Contact & Cortona,
and the custom app is passing the IHTMLDocument pointer to the com object
script.
