Howdy,

We have a world dedicated to playing chess over at VRSpace which
we call GameSpace. Just introduced some Bots into the world that play
each other, and will play you if you so desire. Come check it out.

Hello,
This chess-game does not work, maybe because I don't have a MS JavaVM.
But then is it really cross-platform? Does MS JavaVM support linux etc.?

And by the way - why does it require MS JavaVM ?

Bye

tried the link, Cortona came up displaying some 3d navigation icons,
then nothing except a lot of comms traffic for 15+ minutes!

Need Internet Explorer + Contact. Bots are currently turned off
so you'll have to find a friend to play with. Cross Platform - no,
server is java so runs anywhere java does. MS anything supports linux?
- no.

Long story - look up EAI.

Hi,

Ok, I looked it up - EAI requires Java COM which
is supported only by MS Java, right?
But why the vrml-browser makers don't implement it themselves?
This question is actually to them but maybe someone knows here?

Btw. JSAI (I mean Java in Script nodes) should work with Sun Java, shouldn't it?

Hmm, don't know what you mean by Java "COM". Instead, I would say,
EAI requires a java plugin. Basic setup, you have a java plugin and a
vrml plugin. Your program is written in Java and is run by the Java
plugin. Your program talks to the vrml plugin and tells it to do things
through a set of calls known as the EAI (External Authoring Interface).
Vrml browser makers, for example, Cosmo, Cortona, and Contact,
support this interface.

Learn this well, and repeat to others as necessary: nothing save
Xj3D works with Sun Java, nothing.

I have, in fact, considered putting that in my sig, unfortunately,
its a lie. Truth is there is nothing intrinsic to the platform that
requires either. The real reason it doesn't work with Cortona et. al.
is that the few people who care, seem to be too busy talking to actually
do any work. Talk, talk, talk, talk...

Not quite sure how you managed to be unable to download all those
files. Would be interested to know. Either way though, you notinited
status bar is the classic "Never used EAI before" symptom. Check out
the Documentation page at vrspace.org for how to get the MSJvm, turn off
Sun Java, make sure you have the write plugin version, etc...
