3dsmax exporter bad precision

| Hi,
i've a big problem exporting vrml from 3dsmax,
the problem is the digits precision.
When I export I choose the max precision (6) but
my objects are not correctly positioned in the vrml scene.
If I move my scene in the orgin of the axes (0,0,0) I've
no problem, but I need to maintain the scene
in the original position.
I set the unit setup in meters.
I think that the approximation used by 3dsmax plugin is bad when you have a big
number with a lot of decimal place.
do you know if the blaxxun plugin is better?
Is it compatible with 3dsmax6?
thank you | |

| Bonjour,
(sorry bad english)
I'm using 3ds2.5 & 3ds4 and i haven't any problem with the
3ds vrml exporter, or with the blaxxun exporter for 3ds.
I'm exporting with a precision of 4 digits and sometimes
for 6 digits for big animations with big worlds.
(with blaxxun 5.1 & BS6.1)
If the mesh of the objects are correct this is not a precision
problem. This is probably some TRANSFORM in vrml with a bad
value ?

Maybe a mix between "behind" and "before" ?
If you see a effect like in viewing
http://www.csv.ica.uni-stuttgart.de...xtag/waende.wrl
then you are a victim of the "thin wall" problem, which is caused
by inexact accounting e.g. of your graphicscard.
If you have the problem like the rear part of a brick of a wall is
intersecting with the front part of a brick, you can solve it with
changing the "solid" field of a IndexedFaceset.
so long

| Hi,
thank you for your replies,
but I think my problem is the bad approximation used by 3dsmax
when your models has big coordinates.
I show you a piece of vrml code refered to the object position,
you can see how is 3dsmax exporter approximation:
2.31066e+006 19.38 -5.03533e+006
I export vrml with 6 digits of precision.
This approximation is not correct.
In 3dsmax the coordinates of an object is this (more or less):
2310333,75 5035321,5
I've tried other exporters (blaxxun, octaga) with the same bad result.
If I export the same scene from autocad with xanudu vrml exporter I've no problem.
thank you anyway | |

| I have the same problem. I don't want to move my scene in the orgin of the axes (0,0,0) because I need to keep real world coordinate positions (convert from GIS application). Anyone has a clue for this?
Thanks |
