the xVRML Project [ http://www.xvrml.net/ ]
is aimed at providing a
human-readable XML-based evolution of VRML97

visit the site
check it out
feedback, comments, etc very welcome

there is a (very alpha) viewer app called "Carina"
which is avail for download for free (open source effort too)

currently runs on Linux and Mac OS X
but Win port should be out late June of this year
[waiting for licensing change to take effect for Windows libraries]

You can write a file export from white_dune, if you want 8-)

How about using CYGWIN (http://www.cygwin.com/) ?

the problem with using CYGWIN is that few Windows users have it
installed... we want our Windows port to just work "out of the box" for
the average Windoze user

A alternative would be to make xVRML part of the official cygwin
package, then it would work "out of the CYGWIN box"...
