| Hi,
We are making a VRML model through quadtrees, using Levels of Details in order to increase, step by step, the image and DEM resolution. We have checked it with commercial browsers as Cortona, Blaxxun and Octaga, and the result is not very good.
The thing is:
when we reach to a range where the model must change the level inside the quadtrees (where a image must be get down in order to get up the next 4 images with better resolution), lags are produced, the images disappear quickly, so, the realism of the model is not very good. When we are working in our pc, this lags are reduced (but not good), but when we are checking the model on the web, obviously, the lags are greater.
Some people in some web-forums have told us that the problem is because we serve the data in a synchrone way, itīs to say, all the data in the same temporal way. They suggest us to do the serving of the data in a asynchrone way. Hence, the images will be visible until the next resolution level would be got up and we were able to visualize it. In this way we could avoid the lags. They suggest us the use of an Java Applet (with MediaTracker class from the java.awt pack, or with ImageObserver interface from the java.awt image pack), or the use of AJAX (Asynchronous JavaScript And XML). Anyway these suggestions are not checked by anybody, so we are not sure if these are the solution, nor them.
Does anybody know if these suggestions are good? Is there any solution for these lags? Is possible to use these java classes in the External Authoring Interface of those browsers? What is the best solution?
