Author Shadows ?

Hello,

I'd like to display realistic shadows in my scene.

I think it could be possible, using Blaxxun's MultiTexture and
Browser.computeRayHit() extensions, to create "intelligent" textures
which would find the lights present in the scene and if those lights
"touch" or not the different parts of the object, and then which would
use an additionnal PixelTexture layer to obtain a realistic shadow
effect.

Does a such script/PROTO exist ?
If not, it could be interesting to create it, I think :-)

Realistic ? Such as realistic as in radiocity renderers which need hours
for one image ?

AFAIK there is (was ?) a "shadowgroup" extension in the Blaxxun VRML browser.

so long

No ... Maybe just something wich would take some seconds to load and
compute, and then which wouldn't have to "think" again. (The lights
would be static, not moving).

Thank you for the information, I didn't know that experimental
extension.
I just tested it, but it seems to be a very limited extension : shadows
are just projected on 1 object.
I think I'm going to try to make my own extension :)

Yes, polygonisland has done a very cool script like you describe.

Have you seen the real shadow depth map example in BS Contact 6.2
with DX9 Shaders ? Arbitrary complex shadows projected on arbitrary objects.

you can use BS Contact 6.2 DirectX 9 Shader for computer shadowmapping,
like most DX9 game

Thank you for the information, I went on their websiste but it has
closed, so I've emailed them and they will give me the script :)

It seems to be a very good extension, but I'm looking for a solution
working with Blaxxun Contact, because I've a commercial project and I
choosed to use Bxx for it (Bxx.price < BSC.price).

Thank you, but I'm trying to find first a solution working under
Blaxxun Contact, because I choosed it for my commercial project, and
because it would be great to have a solution which doesn't need high
capacities (DirectX 9).
(Personnaly I use DirectX 8.1 because DirectX 9 doesn't fully work with
my Radeon7000 card.)

Bye
