Hi,

My name is Amber and I'm a high school sophmore and my Geometry
class requires us to do something in 3D. The language we choose
and what we do is up to each person, and I spent most of this
week exploring options. VRML really appeals to me because it
is the only format I've found that allows me to freely move
about in the 3D world. That is so cool!

I'd like to build a model of my house and make it so that
someone can tour it. I would appreciate any suggestions you
might have. I don't have any money so I need to use freeware
or trialware or else write the code myself.

Is the trial download of Internet Space Builder a good choice
for what I want to do? Is there somewhere I can get some free
furniture and furnishings for the house? This will not have to
work over the net, so I can deal with a little bloat. Are there
any other freeware/trialware tools that might come in handy?

I have two months to complete the project. It doesn't have to
be fancy, but I'd like it to be as nice as I can make it.

Thank you, Amber

Have look at
http://www.neeneenee.de/vrml/downloads.html
under "Authoring" you have al list of all importnat software.
I suggest cosmo Wolrds (30DayTrial) ot White_Dune (free).
For 3d-models like furniture and so forth you have to search the web. You
can convert it with milkshape3d into vrml. (You will need the vrml-exporter
for milkshape3d. - I think)
For converting models you could also use Deep Exploration from Right
Hemisphere. They also offer a 30DayTrail.
It is also very helpful (and often necessary) to edit vrml-code by hand.
Therefor you will have to read up on the basics of vrml. Here is a helpfile
on vrml: http://www.neeneenee.de/vrml/downlo...cu/vrmlclue.zip
But you will also find more basci tutorials in the web I think. There also
some good beginners books out there.

Sounds like you have picked the right time to look at 3D vrml Amber.
Have a look at www.outline3D.com There you will find the perfect
thing you are looking for!

Hello Amber,

most of programms offer support for VRML, there some free and some
expensive, as Robert wrote some can be found at
http://www.neeneenee.de/vrml/downloads.html .

The Question is do you won't really built things from the scratch or
did you wan't predefined Objects. Outline3D offers an very easy way
and as i know is there now a offline version too:

http://www.outline3d.com/?ver=eng&p=show_news&nid=30

You could ask the people of Parallelgraphics, most times licenses for
educational use are free or very, very cheap. Ask them!

Anyway, to look more inside in VRML take a look at:
http://www.web3d.org/resources/vrml...anual/Book.html

Amber
speaking about virtual 3D buildings in VRML, I think you should try Pharus
3D Builder www.int3d.com . It is easy and free for personal uses. There you
can see significant examples and also find the most complete library of high
quality vrml models of furniture on the web. In two mounths you could build
not only your house, but the whole district.

Without a doubt www.int3d.com has some spectacular furnishings, but
when I went to use and mix some items in a vrml package the whole kit
and caboodle all colapsed on themselves. A bummer seems there is
written in the model that the furniture stacks up in the one place!
In TWO MONTHS is a lifetime in vrml. Some folk prefer a quick and
easy solution, like click and drag and the other thoughtful ideas
built in with www.outline3d.com Can int3d models be used in outline3d
so easy?

Let's talk about facts and real examples.
Outline 3d is a good tool, but for very simple buildings .
It depends on what you want to build and what kind of quality you want to
get .....
Take "villa sara" (spiral stair, curved wall, curved windows, .....)for
example on www.int3d.com and try to do the same with any other tool. Let me
know if you get the same quality, in the same size, in the same time. Better
let me see.

Hi Jake,
Maybe too simple, but each item is really
one or a set of shapes that are drawn in what you
might call Model space. You might say all coordinates
that define the shape are first produced
in Model or local space with respect to x=0, y=0, and z=0.

> In TWO MONTHS is a lifetime in vrml.

Now, for each item, you define where you wish to vizualize
it in the Scene or World space, maybe using
Transform { translation rotation scale
child [ DEF Item Shape {...} ] }

> Some folk prefer a quick and

So the current translation and rotation values define
where the item actually appears in the scene and you may use
a text editor for this.

Best Regards,
Joe

Does not answer why the models in int3d are stacked on top of each
other? Keep your cool I am only asking, as for Outline3D you can put
other models inside the Simple Buildings and scale them very easily
within Outline3D and you can add shaded materials and many other
items. By the way naespam is Scottish for nospam[color=blue]

Jake is a grande camion autista non geeko comprende?
Just looking for simple things in life does me.
Your stuff is excellent and a great example of what can be achieved
with vrml, all I want to see is it made easy for lots of folk to
enjoy! I have examples if you like to see some are mine and some are
folk who also enjoy vrml. www.virtual-dundee.co.uk

If you need a easy to learn and but powerfull 3D Modeller with static
VRML97 export (to build 3D objects from scratch), you should take
a look at wings3d: http://www.wings3d.com/

Another free software 3D modeller with static VRML export is
http://www.artofillusion.org/

There is also blender, a very powerfull free software tool, for which you
can get a VRML export plugin. It is rather difficult to learn, at least
without the book: http://www.blender.org/

Try ac3d www.ac3d.org its very good and pretty easy to use. I think
there is a trial, and doesnt cost much either if u have to buy it.
Good luck!

Although I am writing to this thread several months later, I have tried Outline3d. Better said I have tried to try Outline3d. I also tried int3d. For this note I will stick with Outline3d. It has been a disaster.

My objective was to to build a simple two story house using the online version of Outline3d.

After 3 days of trying, I could not figure out how to create a second story. I could not extend the walls up to a second story and I could not put a floor in to build a second story on. I declared myself an idiot and moved on to the offline version.

The Outline folks have a process by which they send you a set of instructions to download the offline version. I asked three time and all three times I received an empty set of instructions. Now their website indicates there are some troubles with the offline version and it is not obtainable.

To continue with Outline3d, I need some basic help. First I need to know the trick and/or hints to building a second story. Second if the offline version is necessary for building a second story could someone tell me where to get it.

By the by I think that it is me and not the product. I could not figure out how to make a second story using int3d either. I will open a second thread on that.

This is interesting. I will try the trial. Your right $50.00 for a non-student is not a big deal.

I found a few things not ok with their website. Please ease my mind. Their gallery was jpegs and not virtual reality models. What is their point? Does the product require a proprietary viewer at all times?

Two, I went to the government and commercial sites that ac3d indicates where their stuff was being used and I think it is not on point to send me to a hugh site like NASA. NASA does not indicate where their VR ,ac3d, pages are.

Any feedback would be helpful

Henry
