hi there,

In the recent years I have viewed many websites which is having this model of a 3d embedded into their HTMl page with some interactivity.

Im a freelance designer, and Im quite impressed on seeing such interactive 3d models on web. I have done sample model with 3d max, and also i have exported it as vrml and embedded it into a html page. But I was not able to get the exact quality and o/p as I see in some of the html pages.

What should I do inorder to get a perfect quality 3d image in the vrml format.

The sameway is there any plug-in that is available in the web for exporting the 3d models that are created using the maya s/w.

If yes, then plz let me know. My Yahoo Messenger id - vink2k5000love.

Do feel free to pm on this issue. I want to learn more abt these new techs. thats happening in the web.

Thanks in advance.

Regards

3D Studio MAX has a acceptable VRML97 export function, if you go around
of some of some funny useless export options (like "generate flipchart").

You should tell us, which quality improvement you are talking about.
Maybe it is useful, to show us "i have ..." "i want ..." pictures.

In princple, there are 3 deadly sins of realtime 3D, you should take
care about :

- too much polygons
- too thin walls
- too much lights

(at least some versions of) Maya has a builtin VRML97 export plugin,
usually you need to load it before first use.
The builtin VRML97 export is notorious for causing problems, jokers talk
about "black holes from maya":
- material with a effect which is not possible in realtime 3D -> black hole
- exported normals are false -> black hole
- forgotten to set a light -> black hole
When working with a black hole from maya, it can be useful to delete
unwanted nodes/fields with a texteditor or with a graphical VRML97
editor like white_dune.

Newtek's Lightwave also has a vrml97 exporter. It is a very powerful
production tool and it is less expensive than Maya or 3D Studio Max.

When we begin to talk about powerfull less expensive tools with VRML output,
wings3D (http://www.wings3d.com/) is also a option. It can import 3D Studio
(3DS) and Wavefront (OBJ) files and export VRML97 files.

It's mayor advantage in VRML97 production over tools like maya or 3D Studio
Max is the fact that wings3D is a low-polygon modeller, while tools like
maya, 3D Studio Max, cinema4D etc. are movie modellers.

In movie modellers, too much polygons are usually not a real problem,
cause (unlike realtime 3D) a rendering time bigger than 1/24 second is
acceptable.

Typical features of a low-polygon modeller are the ability to count polygons,
the ability to have a shaded preview and the ability to see and manipulate
each polygon.

With a tool like wings3D it is unlikely, you will end with 1 million polygons
and a 20 Megabyte file for only 6 artistic valuable shapes.
wings3D is simply not fast enough for this 8-)

You may want to set the field creaseAngle of the node IndexedFaceset in
the output of wings3D to hide ("shade") edges.
