" Cube3 Launches "TheX3Dxperience.com", the First Showcase website for
Real-Time X3D Content."
Siggraph, CA.: August 12, 2004: Cube Productions Inc, in association with
Media|Machines and Virtock Technologies, Inc. announced today the debut of
"The X3Dxperience" website. A first of it's kind, this website (
www.thex3dxperience.com ) offers examples of real world projects that have
been produced by Cube Productions Inc. during the last year. Each commercial
project was produced to be presented in the recently ISO ratified X3D
format. The X3D format provides a professional, broadcast level, real-time
open 3D format for designers, artists and developers.
Created to provide a standard 3D format that can be utilized by many
disciplines for a multiple of purposes, the X3D format was ideal for the
many different project types Cube has worked on with it's clients during the
past year. Content showcased on the website include:
* The 3DX Demo or Die Interactive Logo for Siggraph 2004.
* The Rescue- A 3D Webisode Teaser for StarbaseC3.
* The Air Kettle Interactive online commercial.
* Spacetime3D- An immersive portal project
* Fluidity 1.0- An exercise in interface for tomorrow's computer.
* The Snoopy Labyrinth at the Charles M. Shulz Museum.
"The website was designed to showcase the wide capabilities of content
projects that X3D can be used for now." stated Larry Rosenthal. Larry, the
creator of the site and owner of Cube Productions Inc. continued. "The tools
for authoring and the players for the distribution of X3D have reached a
level in which they can easily compete with the proprietary, closed format,
web3d tools of the last few years. Using X3D as the final published format
allows both myself and my clients to know that the project and content we
made today, will still be able to be viewed and built upon tomorrow. I've
produced web3d projects for over 9 years now, used every technology offered,
and can finally say that X3D is for real, and its here today."
The X3Dxperience website was co-sponsored by Media|Machines and Virtock
Technolgies, Inc., the makers of the above mentioned tools and technologies
made use of by Cube3. All the showcased projects and content on the website
were authored in Vizx3D, the first X3D authoring tool that was released
earlier this year by Virtock Technologies, Inc. For publishing the projects
on the web and the various system needed by their clients, Cube3 relied upon
the Flux Player, developed by Media|Machines, founded by X3D guru Tony
Parisi.
"Vizx3D allowed me to easily create interactive 3d content without any
"real" programming skills. As with Flash and Director before it, I was able
to use the tool to do what I do best, design digital experiences. Vizx3D has
the menu driven tools and interface that designer's need to make content
come to life, without the need for deep programming skills." Rosenthal
stated when asked about the tools used to create the projects shown. He
added " What was also great, was that Vizx3D exported X3D content was
specifically tuned to work with the Flux Player. Rendering techniques such
as wireframe display, multitexturing, video integration and other effects
were seamlessly taken advantage of in Flux and offered playback at fast
frame rates and full screen sizes. The process of making real-time, full
screen, high performance 3D has now changed. Vizx3D and Flux are leading the
way."
The X3Dxperience will be shown as part of the 3DX, Demo or Die Special
Session at Siggraph on Monday, August 9, 2004 at 6pm. It can be viewed
online at www.thex3dxperience.com for the next year. Those interested in
more information or contributing to the showcase site, please make contact
at webmaster@thex3dxperience.com
