VRSpace, an open source, gpled, multiuser system has released a
new version. In the past six months we have worked hard at making this
system as accessible as possible to administrators, developers, and
users alike. All alterations to the world are dynamic, all users may
place content in the world and manipulate it via the World Editor in
real time.
The system allows java coding of Shared Objects at both the
server and client ends. Vrml nodes in the browser communicate with
their client side VRObjects and their counterparts at the server side,
and vice-versus. All objects may intercommunicate. Examples
applications include our Alice bot, driven by the ALICE engine; Chess
which hosts a computer player driven by a chess engine at the server
side; multi-user gaming; arbitrary shared events.
The front end has been improved – users interact with a fully
vrml console whose features include lists of who is online ( and jumping
to them), gates to other servers. The console even understands links,
and user may click on them to jump to the URL.
If you would like to check out the latest version, its running
the Nexus at http://www.vrspace.org/. Software can be downloaded at
