dear friends,

I need advice about software for creation VR world.

I need to make simple gallery in VR for my post-graduation work, so I need
complete software for building this kind of VR place. It has to be simple,
useful and easy to learn, and not too expensive (under 1000$).

what can you suggest to me?

thank you and best regards,

vladimir

white_dune http://www.csv.ica.uni-stuttgart.de/vrml/dune/
is not too expensive (it costs about 0$, not counting download costs for a
few MegaByte data).

If you already know VRML, it is simple and easy to learn cause it give you
only a graphical interface to the VRML commands.

If you do not know VRML (and you don't want to learn/know the VRML internals),
it is not the right tool. It may only be usefull as a part of a toolchain,
e.g. to plug together files exported by other tools.

white_dune is not complete yet, but not useless.
E.g. it has no tools to show Extrusions and no advanced tools to create
Extrusions. But if you only plug together IndexedFaceSets (Meshes) exported
by other modellers, you will not notice see this as a problem.

If you mainly search for a modelling tool to create a static 3D objects,
you should take a look at wings3D http://www.wings3d.com

It is easy to learn, rather powerfull, can export VRML files and costs
about 0$.

Other free modellers with VRML export are Art of Illusion or blender,
but blender is currently not easy to use (at least without the book).

www.vizx3d.com

It is not free, but is less than $1000 (about $300 US). It supports most of
VRML and additionally it supports X3D. Designed to be fairly easy to use.
There is a 30 day demo and many nice examples on the web site.

If you want to keep it really simple, you might try CiteMap Builder...
http://www.trivista.com/products/ci...emapbuilder.htm
($0 US).

Their 3Dimagescene supports numerous gallery type scenes...

Here is something I did wery long ago with a demo of CiteMapBuilder...

It depends on if you want to learn VRML artistry or just want to show off
some 2D images in a 3D space.

Hate to reply to my own post 3 times, bad form I know....

BUT, here is a simple gallery of sorts made with citemapbuilder. May not be
what you are talking about, but it was fun and easy. Shooting and selecting
the pictures was the hard part.

Sure, it could be better, I need to get the official scientific names of the
plants... maybe next later I will.

This software, like VRML, was ahead of it's time and is under-appreciated
even when they give it away. Fine folks, buy some of their 2-D stuff. Their
data munger is worth having (waif +) at twice the price ($0 US).

The intent of Citemapbuilder is website navigation and not just a simple
slideshow with 3d involved like I show here, but hey. This works for me.
