At the present only V-net and Deep Matrix can do this
for Cortona (well, "free" being the key word :)
VRSpace execeeded Cortona's capabilities last I heard.

I have an operational Deep Matrix server set up
at http://www.sevenemeraldtablets.net/
(what an opportunity for shameless self-promotion!, but
courtesy of Lucid Space really :)

It has an operational bot. Grimalkin responds to
"hi" "hello" "hugs" and "Goodbye" and unlike CT pets
is house broken ;)

Works with I.E with a MSJVM or Netscape 4* series and Cortona,
Contact and Cosmoplayer/Nexternet player. Anyone out there
willing to test Deep Matrix with FreeWRL? It does work with V-net
after all.

You can download Deep Matrix at http://Geometrek.com.
If that fails, let me know.

p.s. Not all my avs on the applet list are operational.
Try the chat butterfly or chat sorcerer at the bottom
of the list.

VRSpace is an option as well. It is browser
independent.

Cortona still locks up in VRSpace on the third
grant permission window in Netscape.

I also got this from the Cortona console:

PROTO TransformEditor is not found or does not match declaration of
EXTERNPROTO TransformEditor
though I imagine that's just a minor bug.

Russell,

Thank you for these bug notices. VRSpace has only been fully
tested for IE and Contact, but there is nothing about the server that
requires any particular plugin (other than it working with Java EAI).
We support IE Contact first and foremost, then IE Cortona, after that,
Netscape Contact and Cortona. Of course, we are more than happy to help
out administrators with specific requirements, as resources allow.

Take care,
Muaddib

hi Muaddib,
Well just after my previous Netscape post, I went and switched
I.E. 5.5's vrml browser from CosmoPlayer to Cortona 4.1 and
retried VRSpace. Sad to say, that combination froze up as well.
Only Contact has worked for me in later editions of VRSpace and I
honestly don't think it's just my 'puter. The poster asked for
a multi-user system that works with Cortona. In my
experience, Deep Matrix and V-net are more reliable for that
particular plugin.

thanx
Russ

Hi

I have tried use DeepMatrix with IE+cortona
and mozilla+cortona . Html browser said
"starting java applet " and frozing system.
Lately I use CosmoPlayer+mozilla and DeepMatrix
working very good.
Is it require special setting of java machine?
Actually I use win98 on P3 &128MB RAM (is it
enough?).

What shall I do?

regards
marcin

Ok,
Have you tried other EAI applets with I.E.
and Cortona?
You can find a good selection at this url:

http://tecfa.unige.ch/guides/vrml/examples/eai/

The examples there were written mainly for Cosmoplayer,
so they might not always work correctly, but actual
loading is all that's important right now.

If they load for you ok, then try these two
Deep Matrix applets:

http://shererom.no-ip.org/developme.../ejemplos01.htm

http://www.geometrek.com/web3d/multiuser.html

The servers for these applets are not online, so you can't
connect, but again let's see if they will at least load.

If the first set of examples I gave you produced
the same problem as my Deep Matrix applet, then it
sounds like you have the Sun JVM enabled instead
of the MSJVM. You can turn off the Sun JVM in I.E.
by clicking Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab,
then scroll down and watch for the coffee cup. It's
usually right above The MSJVM check boxes. Uncheck it
and make sure the MSJVM boxes are checked. You have
to close and restart I.E. then.

Hopefully, this is the problem, if its not let me
know and will move slowly from there, because it's
a classpath issue in your MSJVM.

On the other hand...if all those applet examples worked for you,
then hmmmmm....

Hi

Thanks for answer. I have tried changed java setting
in Internet Options , but deep matrix still frozen.
They said
loading matrix.deck.eai.Beta
and do nothing.

Does anybody have any idea.

Marcin

P.S I checked it with CosmoPlayer once more and
with him working excellent.

I am going to have to go with Russ on this one, still sounds like you
are using the Sun JVM, or could be that your MS JVM version is too old,
or... Either way, its always easiest to understand what's going on by
checking the log. Could you copy and send the contents of the Java
Console you see after trying to load. The java console is the last item
in the View menu in IE.

Ok, but did you try the EAI examples at the link I gave in
my previous post?

http://tecfa.unige.ch/guides/vrml/examples/eai/

and the other Deep Matrix applets?

http://shererom.no-ip.org/developme.../ejemplos01.htm

http://www.geometrek.com/web3d/multiuser.html

Do those applets at least load for you? (apart from actually
working correctly, depending on the vrml browser
they were developed on )

The reason these tests are important is my Deep Matrix
applet has my own "home grown" modifications and
admittedly I am just learning the EAI art.

So, I have to figure out is the problem orginating
from my modifications or is it your system?
If it's your system it's a class path problem at this point.
A common thing if you have two vrml browsers on your
computer (in your case Cosmoplayer and Cortona)

I think the specs you gave for your machine should be fine.

thanx
Russ Kinter

Hell

I checked all eai examples from http://tecfa.unique.ch....
and no any working :-(. I checked also example at
http://shererom.... and there I saw only black screen.
I tried run multiuser word with visible java console.
Java console output is :

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:
vrml/external/exception/InvalidEventOutException

at java.lang.Class.forName0(Native Method)
at java.lang.Class.forName(Unknown Source)
at matrix.deck.eai.Beta.init(Beta.java:72)
at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source)
at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source)

I think so its problem with java classes but
about java I know very, very little, so I still
need help.
Lately I erased CosmoPlayr , and have only cortona
but it didnt help :-[[ .

Thanks in advance for a every help

Marcin

The reference to the class sun.applet.AppletPanel means that you
are still using the Sun Java Plugin. You must turn it off to use VRML
and Java together.

Right Rob,

BTW M, you DON'T have to know Java to accomplish this,
just uncheck some boxes is all.

and if I may reiterate some directions:

You can turn off the Sun JVM in I.E. by clicking Tools->Internet
Options->Advanced tab, then scroll down and watch for the coffee cup.
It's usually right above The MSJVM check boxes. Uncheck it and make
sure the MSJVM boxes are checked. You have to close and restart I.E.
then.

Also since you are having similar problems with Mozilla
and Cortona:

>Hi I have tried use DeepMatrix with IE+cortona and mozilla+cortona .

Html >browser said "starting java applet " and frozing system. Lately
I use >CosmoPlayer+mozilla and DeepMatrix working very good.

What puzzles me is if Sun is the problem, why Cosmoplayer works
but one thing at a time.

You want to go in to My Computer->Control Panel and again look
for the Coffee cup icon or maybe a penquin(?) looking figure
depending on the age of your Sun JVM. That is the control panel
for it.
Go in there and click browser tab and uncheck the choices (I.E. and
Mozilla.) Also, there is a probably a Java preference setting in
Mozilla. Unfortuntly I don't know where the that is off hand,
but it's in same window where your cache settings are.
