Author Stereoscopic VRML from CAD

Hi to all, I read the previous posts but didn't find any answer...
I am trying to obtain stereoscopic images from a cad design.
Evaluated several solutions and now testing the VRML way.
I am looking for a VRML viewer that can show stereoscopic images, or better
I need a plugin, cause we want to use stereoscopic view through the net.
I will be glad to anyone who will spend some time giving me any suggestion.
We have a machine with 3Dlabs Wildcat4, active glasses, projectors and so on.
The problem we encountered is only software. I want to show 3D stereoscopic
animation starting from a cad design.
There is any tool that can help making a sequence starting from a VRML file.

Thank you to all.

Images ? 2D Images ? Two 2D Images ? not a 3D modell (VRML, DXF, Inventor,
whatever) ?

AFAIK cortona can do stereoscopic view under M$Windows,
for cc3d there is a extra solution:

http://www.bitmanagement.com/produc..._stereo.en.html

There are also VRML browsers for CAVE systems.

You can try white_dune

http://www.csv.ica.uni-stuttgart.de/vrml/dune/

documentation for the impatient (using a animation example) is available under

http://www.csv.ica.uni-stuttgart.de...n_exercise.html

Full documentation is available under

http://www.csv.ica.uni-stuttgart.de...cs/dune_en.html

The newest 0.27beta version also has a "NurbsCurve to PositionInterpolator"
menupoint...

BTW: i think, white_dune also can be used with "toe in" stereoscpic view on
your machine, but only if you would install the Linux version 8-)

ps: i case you do not know: CAD/CAM tools tend to produce per default
millions of polygons in their VRML exporters (if they do not use the
NURBS nodes of VRML97 amendment 1 or X3D draft).

It is the task of VRML browsers, to display every polygon, and
there is limit, how much polygons your graphicscard can handle.

Some exporters (like the exporter of Rhino3D) let you choose
the number of produced polygons. There are also polygon reducers,
but they are often very expensive.

Also take care of the "too thin wall" and the "too much lights"
problem.

Correction: If your wildcat/shutterglases pair support quadbuffer stereo
(NOT splitscreen/"OpenglVR") it should now also working with the newest
M$Windows version of white_dune (0.27beta80).

You need to use the commandline option "-stereo".

Please tell me the result of the test.

Where do you set so ? I never saw such an option in the right-click
menu or in the preferences :-( Or maybe it was il an earlier version,
like before the change of examine center ?
Btw there is an option "stereo" in opengl's preferences in latest
version of Contact, but it has no effect on my computer as my poor
little Radeon card can't do stereo rendering :-|

Parallelgraphics has a wee demo in stereo it is called city.wrl have a
search for it on their site.

Fisrt of all thank you for the answer, you gave me a lots of material.
I have just tried Cortona and White Dune without any success but I
wasn't sure that they can offer what I was looking for so I gave up.
Now I will try to obtain a stereoscopic view.

We need to export 3D models and create a presentation in stereoscopic
mode. The next aim will be to interact with the model, i.e. for
assemblying it.

I will keep you updated about the tests.
See u soon, bye The Nightsurfer

This is wrong.

You are

- too afraid to try to get old 3D Revelator shutterglasses via Ebay 8-)
- too lazy to install a useful operationsystem and the matching programs 8-)
- too poor to buy the right driver 8-)

http://www.xig.com/Pages/Atop/DX-Platinum.html
http://www.xig.com/Pages/Atop/Demos...tinumLinux.html

We tested it successfully with a 3D Revelator and booth ATI Radeon 7500
or ATI Radeon 8500 on desktop systems.

Thank u Jake, this was very interesting if it had worked in
stereoscpoic way with my active glasses would be great!

Now we are working focusing on hardware cause we need to complete our
laboratory as soon as possible then we will develop the software.
I'll keep you all updated about the tests and so an as soon as
possible.

Meanwhile if anyone can suggest me where to find info and docs about
stereoscopic projection using polarized filters I will be gratefull.
Our problem now is how to control the two projectors: using a
dedicated 3d conevrter or two parallel graphics card. Maybe I went a
little OT...

Thank u anyway. Bye to all The Nightsurfer

Using two parallel graphics cards are not so easy, cause there are not
much PC boards with two AGP connectors. There are PCI graphics cards, that
can do 3D, but your (OpenGL) driver need to support two cards, what is
rare.
You can use a graphics card, that support OpenGL on two VGA connectors.

The easiest way to suppport stereoscopic projection using polarized filters
is programming it like for quadbuffer active stereo glasses and then
use a graphicscard, that support something, that is called
"TwinView clone mode stereo" for Nvidia Quadro cards.

We use it under Linux, but i think, this would also work for M$Windows

http://emedia.engr.wisc.edu/pages/g...sing_NVidia.pdf

At least for Linux, you only need a Quadro card for "TwinView clone
mode stereo", not necessarily a Quadro card with a shutter glas output
connector. We use successfully a "PNY Quadro4 580XGL" in "TwinView clone
mode stereo" under Linux with the same code as for quadbuffered
shutterglases. There are less expensive Nvidia quadro cards as the
"PNY Quadro4 580XGL" on the german market...

This is a good idea, I will try to go deeper. Thank u very much MUFTI.

I tried as suggested by MUFTI some browsers, here the results:

Platform: MS Windows 2000
GraphicCard: 3DLabs Wildcat 7210

Cortona 4.2 doesn't support stereoscopic view
BS contact 6.1 support stereo in anaglyph mode only
WhiteDune 0.27beta105 support stereo view in quadbuffer mode

We finished our laboratory, now focusing on software.
I'll keep you updated,

What type of shutterglasses were used ? Stereographics CrystalEyes 3 ?
Did you need a StereoEnabler ?

> Cortona 4.2 doesn't support stereoscopic view

.... via quadbuffer, i suppose

> BS contact 6.1 support stereo in anaglyph mode only

The free "BS Contact VRML" version or the commercial "BS Contact Stereo"
version ?

The Free version, I tried to contact Bitmanagement Software for the
Stereo Version but without success.
