| I'm kind of new to vrml, though I have experiance in other languages so I
have a basic idea what is going on.
I am building a model of a theatre, the center of the stage being at 0 0 0
in the local system. When this loads the starting position places the stage
in the middle of the screen, at eye level rather than 'foot' level. Is there
any way to define the staring position of the user, and if so how??
Many thanks.

With the first Viewpoint with position 0 0 0.
There is also a way to reduce the avatarsize via Navigationinfo, but
with size 0 you are in danger to get captured by the floor 8-)
so long
