Author X3D Scenegraph assertion...

Hi folks,

Is it true to say that X3D uses Java3D's scenegraph to represent its own
scenegraph?

Also, what is the relationship between X3D's abstract view
of the graph and Java3D? How do I reference a particular object in the
scene, for example.

Thanks

I think you're confusing the X3D spec with the java3d based Xj3D toolkit.

Jeremy, thanks for getting back

You're right; X3D could be implemented in various ways but Xj3d happens
to use java3d...

So then, its fair to say that it doesn't really matter how the scenegraph
is represented, so long it conforms to the spec.

Finally in my case, that means if I write a server that uses Java3D for
its scene graph, then in the future any X3D browser could look at it.

I guess its one of those things just writing it down or telling someone
else triggers the answer in your head :)

No. Maybe the different way is possible: if you use the Xj3D scenegraph,
you maybe can write a X3D file, that can be looked by any future
X3D browser.

You should maybe take a look at mjbworld, AFAIK it can write both VRML and
java3D java: http://www.martinb.com/threed/file/index.htm

But doesn't the Xj3D scenegraph use Java3D's scenegraph? What classes
compose the Xj3D scenegraph? What is Xj3D's connection with Java3D?

Confused! But thanks in advance

Also, how do I compose one of these X3D graphs? The only loader classes
seem to generate Java 3D scenes?

AFAIK, there is also a java4GL or a other java/OpenGL technology loader,
that can be used with Xj3D. I am not a expert. For more information, you should
join the source task group mailing list at www.web3d.org ...
