Actius RD3D Notebook PC: New outlet for VRML Content?
|

| Hi:
I came across an interesting product announcement. It is for the Sharp
Actius RD3D, which is billed as the "world's first autostereo 3-D
notebook"
[NOTE: This product has been mentioned before in this forum (see
message by P Flavin on 12-07-2003)]
For product info see:
http://www.sharpsystems.com/product...s/actius/rd/3d/
I saw a "street" price for it of $3,000.
To see further details check out:
http://store.sharpsystems.com/product.asp?sku=2433813
and

OK....NOW HERE IS MY QUESTION....
I have not seen any mention of a VRML viewer that offers support for
this platform. Is there at present any software that will allow VRML
Worlds to be rendered/displayed on this platform in "autostereo 3-D"?
Thanks,
Bill Angel

I have seen covise/cover (which includes a rather complete VRML97
browser) run on the "see real" autostereoscopic display.
The "see real" website also talk about cortona in full screen mode.

At least the autostereographic display from stereographic talk about
cortona:

| Applications:

Beside this, supported applications like 3D Studio Max have VRML import
features and can be used as a limited VRML renderer.

| in case of the sharp 3d and several other 'autostereo' displays, i am
pretty sure it would work also for Blaxxun Contact and BS Contact
VRML,
and probably any other aplication that that supports stereo in directX
mode, usually it is the case, if you have nVidia card and drivers that
support that)

Why ? For OpenGL, there is a big difference in the code of active
shutter stereo and the code needed for the 'autostereo' displays.

Maybe BS Contact Stereo, i don't know if it will
run on that notebook. Here's the description of it:
