| Hi,
For a long time I've been working with CIS/2 (CIMsteel Integration
Standards) and have been generating VRML models of steel structures from
CIS/2 files. CIS/2 files are exported by steel-related CAD packages.
Now I'm generating X3D models of steel structures. You can see a few
X3D examples (and lots of VRML examples) at
http://cic.nist.gov/vrml/cis2.html All the X3D models and protos have
been validated.
I use BS Contact VRML http://www.bitmanagement.de/ to display the X3D
models. The models also work in Xj3D http://www.xj3d.org/ however, they
don't work with the M8 release, you have to use the latest from the
CVS.
They also can be displayed in Octagon Player. I haven't had any success
displaying them in Flux or Vcom3D Venues. I haven't tried them with
FreeWRL. If you can get them to work with those plugins, please let me
know.
The X3D and VRML models were generated with my CIS/2 to VRML Translator
http://ciks.cbt.nist.gov/cgi-bin/ctv/ctv.cgi (online version). To use
the translator, you'll need a CIS/2 file. You can get several at
http://cic.nist.gov/vrml/cis/Sample_CIS2_Files.zip On the web page for
the online translator, there is a link to the download request page for
the Windows version of the translator. For either the online or Windows
version, the default is to create VRML. You have to select an option to
generate X3D.
Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
