VrmlPad does a good job with this.
You can tell it to put all referenced files in
one sub folder or to retain the directory structure.
BS Contact VRML is a VRML Player that maintains a cache
which reflects the directory structure of the server.
There are no cryptic file names like in IE or Netscape.
After you download the file
http://www.hersto.de/VRML/Test_SmoothPosOriDampers.wrl
you have a file
....\www.hersto.de\VRML\Test_SmoothPosOriDampers.wrl
on your computer. There's also
....\www.hersto.de\VRML\Dampers.wrl
because this is referenced by the first one.
The same applies for textures and sounds.
