Sphere model as lightweight IndexedLineSet?
|

| I have an application where I need a wireframed sphere. Does anyone know of a repository where I can get a pre-canned model,
without reinventing the wheel? Thanks - Kurt

I don't know a repository, but i built one with white_dune and a texteditor:
http://www.csv.ica.uni-stuttgart.de...sphere_wire.wrl
You only need to do the following:
- start white_dune
- use "Create -> Shape -> Sphere"
- click to "Sphere" in the scene view
- use "Action -> Convert to NurbsSurface"
- you can decide the numbers of segments by changing u/vTesselation
- click to "NurbsSurface" in the scene view
- use "Action -> Convert to IndexedFaceSet"
- use "File -> Textedit" and change the string "IndexedFaceSet" to
"IndexedLineSet" with the texteditor
- delete anything from this IndexedLineSet node with the texteditor,
that not belong in it (anything other then the "coord" and "coordIndex"
Fields)
Do you think, this type of operation is import enough to make it
part of the white_dune menus (as a new "Action -> Convert to IndexedLineSet"
if the node is a IndexedFaceSet) ?
so long

Auf deutschen HP9000-Tastaturen wurde übrigens die bei deutschen
PC-Tastaturen so beliebte [Str]an[g]uliertaste korrekt mit "Ktrl"
beschriftet.

MUFTI - For an enhanced astronomical grid control I am working on, I
would like to use a lightweight sphere that has 12 longitude lines ( 6
circles, 30 degrees of separation) and 5 latitude lines (again 30
degrees of separation). So I do not have to install White Dune, would
you please generate me one with a radius of 1.0? If this is an
imposition, I understand and my apologies. Thanks again, Kurt

Have a look at
http://www.hersto.de/VRML/Test_ColorDamper.wrl
This file contains a PROTO called LatLongSphere where
you can specify how many latitudes and longitudes you
want to have.
It is a slightly modified version of the Proto found in
"The Annotated VRML 97 Reference" at
http://www.web3d.org/resources/vrml...ual/ch3-343.htm
I modified it because the version from that book distributes
the latitudes on equal Y coordinates and not on equal
angles.
