Author Book review - "Pro CSS and HTML Design Patterns"
Andy Dingley

2007-07-24, 6:18 pm

Reviewed here:
http://saloon.javaranch.com/cgi-bin...c&f=49&t=000737
and they seem to like it, with a 9/10 rating. The combination of HTML/
CSS and the Design Patterns movement is certainly an interesting idea
that ought to be worthwhile for commercial developers.

Or on Amazon:
<http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...8040/codesmiths>

There's also a companion website, with lots of example code to read
http://cssdesignpatterns.com/

Anyone else read it? What do you reckon? Do APress have
_the_worst_ covers, or what? 8-)

Don't judge a book by its cover. (I may be biased, however.)

Don't know about the book, but the website is XHTML Transitional -- and
has 6 validation errors!

I have "Beginning CSS Development" by Simon Collison (same publisher, also
available at Amazon) and it's been very helpful.

That's not _wrong_, just a little pointless.

Whereabouts? I saw some mal-formed URLs, but not any actual errors.

Given the general state of suckage in the world, I actually thought
theirr code was some of the cleaner examples around. Admittedly it
ought to be perfect, but I've worked in publishing too long to not be
forgiving of the errors that someone else's politics can shove into a
once-pristine piece of work.

Agreed, it's just that, to me, for a new site supposedly for professionals
to use a Transitional DOCTYPE _seems_ wrong!

Can only remember the first three, and they were all something to do with
invalid entities -- I've just checked the site again and it now validates,
so that's probably why you had trouble finding them!
