Author Recordset nav as UL

Here's what I'm trying to achieve:

http://www.james-thomson.net/page_nav.gif

I'd like for the text of the page numbers to align vertically with the
first/prev/next/last image buttons. All these items are LI elements in
a UL.

First I tried setting the LI elements to "float:left" with "margin:auto
0" but this didn't work, then I tried displaying the LI as inline with
"vertical-align:middle", this didn't work either. What I ideally want
is a solution where if the user increases their font size the text and
images all align vertically middle.

I'll post some code later tonight but if anyone can point me at a site
which appears to do this already it'd be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim.
