Stylesheets - Not working in IE

Looks fine in FF, but IE doesn't seem to like it. I'm still learning,
and I'm not sure what the IE hacks are. Could someone help me out?

It doesn't work correctly in Opera either -- possibly because validation
shows you have 11 errors in the html.

Naw, fixed the errors, just missing alt tags.

I've not examined the code in detail, but there's three things to
check:

1. box model bug - IE's width includes border and pading
2. margin and padding - defaults differ in browsers
3. double margin bug - IE doubles margins on floats

...most of which would not matter if the page/site wasn't so physically
constrained. Heh, width: 500px ?

I could expand it to 700px, but I don't much like the look of the text
stretching that far (right now, it only has 230px, but it would have to
stretch 530px if I made it 700px total. The other option would be to
make it a 3 column layout, but that would defeat the purpose of having
a 700px total width, as the content would still be constricted.

If you are only building the site for yourself to use, do whatever you
please, but if you are building it for the public, consider the pubic.
It really does look silly when displayed in a maximized browser window
on a large monitor.

Have a look at this template. Notice how it fits in just about any sized
browser window. Copy the structure, and fill in your content. For your
stamp thumbnails with captions, put each in a div with float:left .

Hey, B, take a look at the "Right col" layout in this set. This
is not a criticism of your endorsement, just a point of
discussion, I am always interested in fluid layouts:

I reckon the max width for the text is sensible. But it looks odd
to me that the right col is so far on the right on a big screen
in such a case... way to the right of anything at all. Better to
max-width something else or something in addition... the body
perhaps?

I suppose one could put max-width on the body, but then there would be
all that wasted space to the right. <g>

I use a max-width on the content on one site of mine (a "left-column"
style site) because the client's wife insisted upon it.

When it is all to the right, that is saying there is no more
content to see folks, thank you and goodbye. When it is stuck in
the middle, it is saying, hey, you are having to turn your eyes
and/or head to the right because when it comes to fluidity and
flexibility, I don't flex or fluidate (like when Tommy Lee Jones
had just shot an escapee in The Fugitive, the gun going off very
close to his deputy's ear, making him momentarily deaf. The
deputy thought he should have at least tried bargaining with the

And if she had not, would lines of text have run for miles along

The text would be about 70% of the browser width, the rest being
occupied by the left-hand menu and some margins on either side.
