In view of the mixed bag of answers to the "positioning: newbie question"
thread, and in view of the fact that the float and the positioning seems to
cause trouble (again and again people have trouble putting things at the
bottom of a column) -
Which ONE command in CSS would you remove?
Which ONE command in CSS would you alter?
Which ONE new command in CSS would you introduce?

My answer would probably be 'none' to at least 2 of the above, but it
would help to know what you mean by 'command', as CSS doesn't have any
commands. Do you mean element? Or property?
And are you asking which ONE element or property I would like to
remove from CSS2.1, and which I'd like to introduce in CSS3?

There was consensus in the replies, one response by an idiot who has
probably moved on already or will do soon.

Both floating and positioning are valued tools in the css arsenal, it's
just that using either to create a layout by someone who has just last
night heard of css is likely to do more harm than good.

You need to distinguish between the capabilities of css and the
capabilities of clients. A lot of difficulties stem from IE's lack of
support for many aspects of css2 and it's numerous css bugs.

For example using css to replace a table layout is catered for in css2,
but because IE does not support it, few people even know that such a
mechanism exists.

Thanx. (And thanx, too, for avoiding the pedantry, so often - as we've seen

90% of those probelems are thee because IE don't support something, 8%
because gecko wont support something, 1% for Opera and 1% for bad spec.
(numbers by Stetson-Harrison method)

What to wish for is decent CSS21 support in IE and Firefox. After that
some CSS3 support in all.
