Author IE rendering problem

If I have a menu ID defined in part as:

....
position:absolute;
left:85%;
width: 15%;
top: 0;
bottom: 0;
background-color : #464E91;
....

IE only runs the background color I use for this ID to the bottom of the
TEXT in this sector.

Opera and Firefox use the background color all the way to the bottom of
the
browser window. Is there a CSS hack to make this happen in IE as well?
Am
I missing something else that is important in this situation

Thanks,
