This very simple page works corectly in every browser I can find except
IE 5.5 and IE 6 on Windows.
The page contains two blocks of text; one static, the other floated.
They each occupy 50% of the parent block, and display correctly --
50/50 in every browser.
However, if the parent block has margins of it own, IE 5.5 and IE 6.0
screw up, although each browser screws up somewhat differently.
(IE 5.5 makes the fixed block narrower and the floated block wider. IE
6.0 makes the fixed block narrower, but renders the floated block
correctly, leaving an unwated gap.)
The question is why does this happen, and what is the generic
workaround? I mean, I know about the IE box model problem with padding
and margins, but I'm not using padding here. What's happening?
