Author New Dog site

Hi

I have just launched a new site selling clothes for Chihuahuas and other
small dogs at www.chi-mania.co.uk

Having built the site myself, I would appreciate any feedback, particularly
as to whether I should lose the Flash entry page, for search engine
rankings?

Many thanks

Chris

You should

No, because its places a barrier between the user and the information they
(presumably) want from your site.

Hi Chris,
You know what I think about the flash page, so I wont repeat
myself. Just rename the home.htm page index.htm and adjust the links
accordingly and bingo, no flash page.
Are you using FTP to upload your site or is it something else?

As to the rest of your site, the fonts way too small, i've got good eyesite
and I'm squinting. Set font to 100% and you'll be ok.

The code.....hmmmmm. I apprieciate your using a front page template, so its
not your fault, but the code is Waaaay old school. the use of <table> and
<font> tags is soooo 1994 and is hopelessly outdated. My advice would be
toditch Front Plague(horrible code) and spend some time learning HTML 4.01
and CSS. A good place to start is http://www.w3schools.com/

Best of luck!

Hmm, I can't find a link into the site unless I allow the flash. Then,
clicking "Enter" gives me an alert saying "The URL is invalid and cannot be
loaded." The status bar says it is pointing to http:///

Using FF.

Sorry Paul, forgot to say I am uploading using FP, will that still let me
get rid of flash page by merely changing name of pages?

Cheers

Dunno about FP's web publishing facilitys having never used it. I use a FTP
(file transfer protocol) program called AceFTP 3 . Its free and easy to use.
you can download it here
http://software.visicommedia.com/en...aceftpfreeware/

If you need any help, dont hesitate to drop me a line.

...and would you please have a look at this page:
http://oakroadsystems.com/genl/unice.htm#quote
and set your newsreader to quote what you are replying to?

Trim quoted material as necessary, but don't trim attributes, then reply
inline (below) the points in question.

Thanks.

Yes.
Among other things. http://freewebdesign.cjb.cc/design-tips6.html
Your site could be quite easy to re-design useing HTML and CSS for
layout, instead of the old style table and font tag style of layout.
You should also make sure that your HTML validates,
http://validator.w3.org
This will mean your code will work properly in more browsers and be
easier to debug.
