Hi, Here's a webpage thats in production:

http://www.chameleonmoments.com/acs

The CSS is wobbly, if anyone can iron out issues I don't see, I'd
appreciate it.
Its ok in Safari and Firefox, but not in explorer.

It should look like this : http://www.chameleonmoments.com/acs/flat.jpg

I'm sure the minimise idea won't be possible for explorer.
I can live with that.

Thanks

osman

Overall the layout and color scheme look quite nice.
I have no clue, though, what the site is about.

As amazing as it may seem, not everyone has a Flash plugin.
The Flash element is 4 gray boxes. Why would I want to minimize to that?
The links on the left change on hover. The links on the right do not.
The "minimised" button is overlaid by the flash window. And it is on
the left, not the right.
There is no advantage to the w3c links. Most users have no clue what
"validation" means, and developers think it is superfluous.

The text content seems to assume knowledge I do not have. Who was born
in Kazakhstan? And what does Mike have to do with it? And the sentence
about shamanism is incomplete; it's missing a verb at the least.
There is one misspelling (embeded -> embedded), and a couple of typos
(persons -> person's).

If you click minimize a couple times, then hit the back button, all it
does is turn minimize on and off. You should find a way to minimize
using javascript, so that the back button works. Or just take it off.
It's a bit pointless.

osman,

In Netscape 7.1 at 600 X 800 full-screen:

Looks exactly as you expect, except for the minimize/maximize link. I
see the word MINIMIZE, but there's garbage behind it. And the garbage
changes if I scroll the screen, sometimes looking like a couple of extra
vertical-scroll bars. Very odd.

The box in which MINIMIZE appears is 200 px high, per your CSS for "ul
a", which makes the box look strange, especially when I mouseover it and
the left border appears. At 600 X 800, the width of this box extends
rightward and overlays part of the Flash real estate.

Although the text at the bottom of the screen says "Press the button on
the top right..." there is no 'button' and the link which suppresses
text is on the top LEFT.

In IE 6.0 at 600 X 800 full-screen:

Looks exactly as you expect, except that the 200px height of the fadebox
is reserved across the top of the window, so the Flash area begins 200px
from the top of window. And, as you expected, it does nothing.

I normally run with ActiveX disabled. Under that condition, the Flash
is not invoked. Also the top corners of the presentation box are not
rounded.

Mike must be an interesting guy to work with.

I confess to being mystified by the :target selector in your CSS. I
can't find any doc on that one.

I thank you for taking the time Craig, Chris and Jim.

The site is 'about' documenting the things that Mike says.
Some people get it, others don't.

Jim -
The flash menu does look very boring, good point.
I'll change the menu when I can get it to animate off on loading the
clips.
The validation links are useful for me only.
I've changed the copy a bit now thanks to your input.

DJ Craig -
The idea behind the minimise (or minimize) box is so that you may view
the animations without the clutter of the rest of the page.
It messes with the back button, I know, but its a minor extra click I
think.
Unless you press it lots.
I can't tell why its not floating in explorer, making the page 200px
lower.
This calls for fixing time at a PC with explorer.

Chris -
The mystical target class and method is adapted from here :
http://www.htmldog.com/articles/drstrangeswitcher

I've moved the button around and tried different methods.
Netscape (7.0, mac) still won't behave and what you describe I've not
seen.
I'll make the button more discrete so it's less of an issue.

I stuck in some flash detection.
The template has to work before I do more content.

I haven't even begun to put this stuff online yet.
There's so much more constantly streaming out of Mike every time I go
over there.
He is a mad genius after all.

; )

Which identifies it as part of CSS 3. I found technical details at
http://www.w3.org/TR/2001/CR-css3-s...#target-pseudo.

Note, however, that this is a W3C Candidate Recommendation and says, in
its introduction, 'It is inappropriate to cite a W3C Candidate
Recommendation as other than "work in progress."'.

Not something I'd want to hang my hat on at this time, but I 'spect Mike
doesn't care...

Cheers,

It works across multiple pages now.
Quite bare pages for now. Its all a works in progress.

There's less emphasis on the minimise thing. Thanks to the headache it
caused.

The pages do have this problem of the background not flowing to the
bottom of the rightcontent div.
I always have this problem.

If anyone knows the cure ..

I don't get the point of this minimise thing. It seems pretty useless.

Let me explain.

I do animation and am trying to make an animated website.
Not all flash, partly flash.
The top part of the page will be interactive and look more colourful
than it is right now.
Each page will have a different swf, the current swf will go to the
movies page.

The button is just a way to give the flash part a nice frame, without
the clutter, when you want.
So you may enjoy the animation.

Let me give you a tip: either quit using google groups to post to
usenet, or learn how to turn on replies, then quote per accepted practices.
<URL:http://allmyfaqs.com/faq.pl?How_to_post>
Pay particular attention the the subject of quoting.

Dumping google groups is actually the better way to go. There are
bunches of free newsreaders out there. Go get one.

Google groups is nice and familiar.
I should use MT-NewsWatcher with too many windows from now on.
Thanks.

Me on 22 Jul 2005:

This only happened in firefox.
The cure is an overflow: auto; for the container div.

The site : http://www.chameleonmoments.com/acs/
should now look like this : http://www.chameleonmoments.com/acs/flat.jpg

Thanks again for the input.
Things got done good!
