| hi all,
i am currently working on the second stage of an information/community website: www.africawebaustralia.com.au, the current work involves CSSing the entire website, it is still incomplete and awaiting validation which i am hoping it wont be of a big problem as i am trying to use valid code and css based, i have not worked out the accessibility features yet, but i thought it would be a great favour if i get some sort of feedback meanwhile i am working on it, since the more i do, the more will be there to change after considering valid critics!
i am mainly concentrating on getting the intended layout working, in addition to fixing design issues in stage 1.
please visit the new version www.africawebaustralia.com.au/awaFinal and be generous ;)
*please ignore the adds, they are too ugly to be judged, they are non
of my design anyway - except for a couple!

| The website looks great, all though that large banner on top doesn't do the website any good.
I checked the website on internet explorer, netscape, opera and mozilla.
On the three last browsers u have a problem on the home, the center news items have lots of white space underneath each one of them.
I also would not use an horizontal scroll in the center frame.
I also tryed to validate your code, and there was a lot wrong with it.
U should use this website to test every page of your website for wrong use of code.
http://validator.w3.org/
I also think the website has great use of color, but it is kind of busy with those automatically scrolling text messages.
Keep up the good work, i hope u can use some of my comments.

Hey Gwildor...
i really do appreciate the constructive comments,
you are right, my markup isnt valid upto this stage..
i know about w3 validator, it just needs sometime...
but i promise i will do it ASAP, whats stopping me is the fact that
i am intending to validate against XHTML strict, so i could get it viewing in
mobiles and other devices correctly!
i will start with fixing the white spaces issue soon as well, it is a bit hard to control it with decent outlook in all the browsers you mentioned!!
i have been testing in all of them.... yet it is not impossible :)
regarding the horsizontal scroll, i know what you are talking about,
but i need to fix this one too, any idaea how to disable it using CSS;
as i am using the overflow: scroll property to generate this frame-like
layout!! i am trying to make the user life easier by avoiding frames!
i will start with fixing the above, and i will post a message so you can re check again, if you dont mind of course!
about the top banner, and the scrolling texts, would you suggest the
website is better off without them? i think so too... its my client who
is insisting! any suggessions?
any more critiques please? i am craving for some ;)
thanking your attention and time!
regards..

| Hi, the page looks fine!! It's a good idea to avoid the white spaces because it seem is the only announcement you have.
I think is too fast the announcements of breaking news and featured spaces, users have to read vey quicky to undestand them.
have a nice day :) | |

Hey patoarlette...
i really appreciate the time & effort...
its true about the white spaces, but you know what?
i am gonna have to take some stuff out as i am adding a google adds,
section to increase ranking in google and a google search as well.
i will take your note down about the announcements speed and i will reduce it....
thank you very much for your advice and have a nice one ;)
hey everyone else,
is that all you can find... come on... i cant be that good :)
please provide more critique, and i promise to consider all that is constructive.
by the way, i have not designed the adds.. i know they look bad,
and somewhat making the website looks ugly to an extint!
but hey, its not my website, i am only the developer/designer! :)
regards,
khalid |
