I like this one.

With a little extra effort though, you can let the visitor decide the
colour scheme.

That's right.

Oh, if this is your work: http://users.skynet.be/bk232951/
Than do something about the javascript, because I can't scroll down.
Unless I disable javascript. Unfortunetly there is no menu when JS is
disabled.

It looks like no one is willing to give some HELPFUL advise !
Do you ever stop complaining ? If you have downloaded that huge (250k) picture, why can't you comment it by the way ...

Yes that website is mine and thats is what will be reshaped, so I won't bother bout that scrolling, cuz it has been online for almost 2 years now without any complaints about that ...

I would really LOVE someone to post something else than "use CSS", "post that bloody URL", etc

Oh, we can comment.
We also can give some *helpful* advise. With a page we can give you
better advise then with a image of a page.
Because we can view the page with different browser on different OS's
and give you some advise with html or css coding.

There is no html, at least not yet. All he has are mockups he's doing
in Photoshop or some such thing. He is under the misguided impression
that this is how one designs a web site.

Look at the name of this newsgroup. It is alt.HTML.critique. If it were
alt.photshop.critique then maybe you would get some answers. Here we like to
look at the HTML and the CSS (or lack thereof).

A web page is not just an image, it is a complex object subject to HTML
errors, browser bugs, viewer preferences and other such things. It is these
latter things you will gain a critique on. I don't care what your images
look like, I want to poke font sizes and canvas size changes at a real web
page. I want to run it in several different browsers to see if it breaks in
one of them. I'll probably also run it in lynx to see how it will sound to
a blind person. I can't do that with an image of a page.

In any case I thought I did point out that your graphics are impressive.
However I still offer that wager, that it will fall apart when I change my
font size :-)

Cheers
Richard.

Okay I got it when someone in the other thread told me I was actually posting on newsgroups !

You have to know I'm posting form a WWW forum and there isnt stated it's going to usenet. Therefore, I didn't even know it was HTML critique, or else I woudlnt have posted pix !

Getting better!
Colours look kinda washed out and weak
....as if you had converted a greyscale image to 16 million, then applied
various color balance, or hsl settings??

what if there was advertising on the forum, your posts are being used to
generate content for the forum. don't you think you'd be entitled to
some of the advertising $$ to compensate you for generating content that
the site owner is making money out of?

The operative word here is *if*. They are not honest. They are going out of
their way to hide the fact that they are only a portal into usenet.

There are many other such sites around. Most of them quite clearly state up
front what they are, a web based access (*) into usenet. These guys do not,
and by not doing so they hoodwink people like DigitAlex into believing
he/she is posting to something other than usenet.

(*) Such things are necessary. Not everybody has access to a newsreader
(libraries, internet stations at the airport). Google is read only. These
honest sites provide needed read/write access.

Cheers
Richard.

Where did you get that address from? Looking at the newsgroup headers,
abuse@giganews.com might be an option, too.

The domain is registered through GoDaddy, so maybe we could email them

yes - but then I also think I should be paid for the bandwidth used by ads
in the first place ... and for the time used by ads on commercial tv (and
radio) stations.

I didn't see any ads on that site - but maybe it's early days.

It's a two-way street. Promoting the content of usenet via the web can be a
good thing in some circumstances - if the site needs advertising revenue to
remain stable then that's an acceptable trade-off - depending on
presentation.

I was going to email microsoft.com to enquire what they thought about the
above site misrepresenting some of microsofts newsgroups as their own
content. If Bill took an interest I'll bet we could count the individual
microseconds until the site was gone.

Then again, I couldn't find an email address that seemed reaonable to post
to, not that I tried too hard.

I find it gratifying that all of *these* posts are making it onto the
website (*). Surely somebody reads them :-)

(*) I'll bet my LOL quotient over there is going through the roof. However,
on investigating it I find that I am still a 'guest' with a "posts per day"
of 0. Bummer :-(

Cheers

This is usenet. Welcome :-)

However it *is* sort of on topic. That site is using material that I hold
copyright to and is passing it off as their own, or at least pretending that
I posted it to their site, which I did not. This just might, some day,
affect my credibility (shut up brucie).

Copyright issues and stealing stuff from the internet is usually on-topic no
matter which newsgroup you are auditing, except for those wares places of
course.

Flick over to alt.www.webmaster for an education in how far away from topic
things can get. Matters often result in mud-wrestling contests between the
various girls, pictures are included :-)

BTW I'm still waiting for a first draft of a web page from that image.
Anything will do. Just mock up the navigation bit at top right.

Cheers
Richard.

Even less reason for this thing we are discussing :-)

Ah, a point, google is really bad a threading, is it not?

Cheers
Richard.

They aren't promoting the content of usenet. They are stealing the content
from usenet and pretending it is their own. There is absolutely no mention
of usenet anywhere on that site. I looked.

Cheers
Richard.

Well in this particular case it seems to be a cheap way to promote the site
with free content. Suspect the ads will follow when/if the traffic builds
up.

I know, I know - I had rambled on away from that site in particular. Those
scrambled mutterings were general comments on the issue at large.

But you're absolutely right - I looked too.

ISTR that google groups threads on subject header. hence some threads
appear disjointed as the headers change.

That site also uses content from ciwa*, where faqs are sometimes
posted. I wonder if the site filters those out to keep up the pretense?
