Hi,

I've read this ng on and off for a while now so thought I'd post my site for
an opinion... so here it is:-

http://www.rawkstar.net - It's a music site focussed on the UK music scene.

Thanks!
Bob

Man. I love your site. Great look and feel. It even look ok on my handheld.
one thing maybe.... if you make your image only the star, and not the start
with the text, it would fit on my handheld perfectly.

i mean to say, take the text ("rawkstar.net") out of the image, and make it
actually text.

sweet - perhaps the pages need more in the way of visual focus points for
graphical browsers

Pretty good. Two little niggles though:

1. All lower case headings can be nice -- and they are in your case. But
as it is a presentational effect, you should use CSS:

h2 { text-transform: lowercase; }
<h2>Mini Reviews</h2>

2. You have a few "java script:" URLs. These are nasty. Use:

<a href="real_page_for_people_who_dont_have_javascript.html"
onclick="foobar(); return false;">Link</a>

For example, ditch this:

<a class="menu" title="mini reviews (pop-up window)"
href="java script:mini_review_list()">mini reviews</a>

and use:

<a class="menu" title="mini reviews (pop-up window)"
href="http://www.rawkstar.net/minireviews" target="minireviews"
onclick="mini_review_list(); return false;">mini reviews</a>

You can increase text size in any browser if it's too small for you.

I'd Like to add some more graphics... but I ain't very good with these
photoshop thingamies so I can't do 'em...

I am going to try and get some music related graphics onto the site at a
later date though, I'll need to learn how to use photoshop :)

beer is the answer - you may have used it in the past to subdue potential
partners in advance of obtaining sexual favours. now you can change focus
and encourage the creative juices to flow from your friends, colleagues and
casual acquaintances.

Aye, and those which need to take advantage of that functionality will
already have done so. There is no need for you (as an author) to set a text
size.

Only add a graphic if it serves a specific function.
"Window dressing" doesn't count.

A tasteful photo of a gorgeous naked lady would greatly increase the visual
appeal of a banking website - yet, somehow I don't think that the bank
management would approve.

I exaggerate to make a point.

Sure, it's clearly obvious that a banking website isn't going to work with
a naked lady on the front page. Yet, that image would add quite a bit to
the visual appeal of the page.

So, there must be more criteria to a graphic on the page than simply, "It
looks cool".

Correct! That's why one doesn't just add graphics willy-nilly for the sake
of a graphic.

If they serve a purpose as Hung outlined above, great. Otherwise, it's just
a waste and may even damage your site.

While it's clear that a naked lady doesn't belong on a banking wep page,
you might add a graphic to your page with the same effect unintentionally.
Nothing screams "amateur!" like a pixelated animated graphic, for instance.
